No it is not Xcel Energy it is "West Asset Management" and I was told by the REAL Xcel they are being DROPPED due to their shaddy buisness practices and numerous complaints. DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY ANY INFO, and report back to the REAL Xcel about them!!!

This is not Excel. These are criminals who got their hands on Excel customers names and are trying to defraud them by claiming they haven't paid bills. Some poor schmucks send money to these scammers, and then guess what, the real Excel starts hounding people because they haven't paid their bills. Don't ever pay someone who claims to be Excel unless they send a real paper bill to your real address. The real Excel will never call you.

Got a call for "Xcel Customer" from 888-220-8401 with a reference number.  I called this number back and it was a sales line for HughesNet high speed internet service.  Never talked to anyone but googled this company and there are a serious number of scam reports for them.  Just a heads up.

30 DEC 2011 - Warning: This is "ROBO-CALL" MISERY.  If this number is calling you, IT'S A RECORDING!  Please don't waste your time trying to answer this number, unless you actually are a customer of Excel Energy Co., or unless you think that it's for your own overdue bills.

Here is what happened:  607-252-6856 kept calling us.  We received the 888-220-8409 number when we finally tried to find out who kept calling us, day and night from the unfamiliar (607)area code.  (Calls came all day, for weeks, arriving from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., to 10:30 p.m.  Upon our answering the 607 incoming call, A RECORDING SPOKE, telling us, "This call is for JASON OSBORNE: Please call 888-220-8409, regarding your account.  Give the reference number 156398."

They had a wrong number!  "We are NOT Jason Osborne!"  So, we called the number that (607) gave to us, namely 888-220-8409.

If this is happening to you, PLEASE, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME PHONING EITHER NUMBER--(888), OR (607)!  Service Representatives did NOT answer--only a system telling us that we had reached Excel Energy, and to wait and wait for the Representative--but that they were all busy.  Then, it finally decided that we had waited long enough, and it told us to put in a box number, or to wait to "leave a message."  As soon as it gives you a beep, though, it promptly announces to you, "This box is full.  Please call back later.  Good-bye."  And it HANGS UP ON YOUR CALL!

    How RUDE!

It appears to us that Excel Energy must feel perfectly comfortable harassing perfect strangers, and that it doesn't care about anyone!  If it did care, it would have made decent provision for innocent people--offering a writing address to which they can respond.  Not even our own own cell phone company is able to stop these "spam calls."   That means we are still going to continue to experience them, even though we have phoned and tried to do the right thing!

TIME OF CALLS: Daily, from eight a.m., to half-past 11:00 a.m., and then again at dinner time, or at 10:00 p.m. or later.  Please...ATTORNEYS...!  Can you do something about this?  There are probably thousands of people who are very upset.  They will bless your kindness, and your goodness of heart and spirit, if only you can stop this frustrating thing from happening to everyone, over and over again.

WE CARE ABOUT YOU!  Best Wishes, and Happy New Year, 2012!

This indeed is west asset management. It is a company xcel hired (much like mafia thugs) to get you to pay your bill earlier since you are late.  If you call xcel directly they are much easier to talk to and they will make a note of whatever day you're paying and if the calls still don't stop if you have access to implement a block I suggest you try that. Exactly what I'm doing and the lady at xcel was awesome. I truly hate companies who hire "bill collectors" of the sort to hound you if you're late with a bill course, I am late on purpose because I hate xcel. I would get rid of them if I could so I protest by making them send me late notices and I pay them at the last minute even though I've got the dough to do it earlier. Silly maybe but it makes me feel better.

I verified with Xcel that yes it is legit that the robocalls by West Asset are for accounts 31 days or more past due.

The billing specialist at Xcel told me that you don't need to pay West Asset, but can call Xcel directly.

Here is Xcel's official billing and service number:  1-800-895-4999

Paying Xcel directly will have your payment post to your account faster, and yes Xcel billing people were friendly.

This isnt a scam... it really is xcel energy.  Yes its a collection place that handles accouts more then 32 days pass due. I got a call from them and thought it was a scam. I played around and asked them when I started my account, full payment history for a year, and asked them to verified al #s on accouts they nes everything.  Theni call xcel 4999 number n told them I made a payment with that # n they called them on 3 way and I listened to the call. The xcel people give them my account # they pulled it up and told them I didnt make a payment and put their supervisor on the phone who verified everything again. They are hired from xcel to get late payments. The main xcel just makes them do their dirty work so they wont look bad. Now I always call then to make my payments and I dont have to wait on hold forever and I dont pay that bs processing fee 4.85 cents. Their are scams out their but this isnt one of them

Have continued receiving calls from this number, off and on for about one month now. After reading  all the other comments, when I was trying to find out who was calling, haven't wasted my time answering.
The calls have started as early as 8:30 a.m.; time at night has varied.  They've called 1 - 4 times a day, at times. Very irritating!
