Glad I checked out this #.  The person said she was calling from the "ACS" and asked if I could pledge $20, 30 or $40 or more to the Breast Cancer Society.  I told her $30 & she said she'd mail me out the form in the mail & then she passed me along to her supervisor to verify my information.  I got the info in the mail 4 days later & it does look hokey. The logo didn't look very good and just the fact it had a P.O.Box # listed made me suspicious enough to look up this telephone # on the internet.  I guess my instincts were right with other people getting the same calls & also being a little leary.

My wife donated for "The Breast Cancer Society" last year.  We now get calls from them and from "Firefighters Support Service".  Same scheme; paperwork looks alike, even the return envelopes come from the same carton; confirm it: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/Charities/search_detail.aspx?charity_id=23510; revenue: $634,400; Total Expenses: $626,210.  Funny and strange: I could not even find "The Breast Cancer Society" on Secretary of State Sam Reed's web site.

My husband got a call a few weeks ago and the person on the line asked if my husband could donate to the breast cancer society.  He said he would but send him something in the mail.  We got the donation bill.  We haven't sent anything yet.  But a phone number 800-641-6027 called today which I didn't answer because I don't answer toll free numbers.  So I looked up the number on this website and found out by other comments it was probably a fraud.  So I got the bill down from my bill box and looked up "The Breast Cancer Society" on the Better Business Bureau and I found nothing from the 2 addresses on the bill.  (Birmingham, AL-is where I mail the money to) and Mesa, AZ (headquarters) and nothing shows up for either address.  The only thing that would pull up was something like it but not exactly the same name but they were in Canada.  I say they can just keep calling and I won't answer and they can keep sending me a donation bill and I won't donate.  This is the reason why I don't like to donate because you think you are doing a good thing and the other end is doing a bad thing.

Like "Not Born Yesterday" -- I'm VERY glad I Googled the phone number as well as "The Breast Cancer Society".  The operator who called initially said she was calling from the "ACS" and asked if I could pledge $20, 30 or $40 or more to the Breast Cancer Society.  I told her $30 & she said she'd mail me out the form in the mail & then she passed me along to her supervisor to verify my information.  I got the info in the mail 4 days later AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS PRINTED ON A HOME COMPUTER!

After some detailed searching on Google, I found this website as well as MANY others stating that something was not quite right with this so-called Charity Organisation. I called the 888-number, got a machine instead of a person, and left a message stating my "donation number" and said "you're a scam. I'm reporting you. Don't call me again"

This phone number is calling to try to SCAM money for a Cancer Charity. The Fundraiser is “Associated Community Service” A professional fundraiser caught up in the US Navy Veterans Association 100 million dollar fundraising fraud scandal. Has been sued by many states for using unfair and deceptive trade practices, violations of the do not call list and much more.  Or they are “Corporations for Character” acting as the professional fundraiser for the Fraternal Order Of Police nationwide. They suck 85% and 73% respectively out of your local communities at the same time they tell you, the prospective donor that 100% of your donations go the local charity. It is a potentially criminal misrepresentation.
I have NOT called the number, nor will I.  It directs you to a customer service department that can answer questions using potentially manipulative techniques, help you waste your donation on fundraising fees and high administrative expenses, or anything else related to the Breast Cancer Charity getting a small fraction of your donation, 12% to 27%. The BBB has said this charity gives LESS then 1% of your donation is put to the charitable cause. Some fundraiser's pocket as much as 73% to 99%. Also, there’s information on www.badgefraud.org on the massive numbers of warnings put out by Charities that do not use so called professional fundraisers and Real Police and Sheriff and Fire Departments as well as Veteran Medical and Children’s Charity warnings. But you can contact the folks there with any questions or requests or comments.

BadgeFraud (dot) org is doing a lot of really great things for the families of police fire vets and children’s charities by making sure your donations go where YOU intend. The people that post are NOT trying to raise money, they are trying to protect the money of the people who protect us, and that is something very good.

The so-called "solicitor" who called was rude, refused to send me information unless I pledged at least $30 to "The Breast Cancer Society", who, by the way, send all the money overseas, supposedly. I was threatened that I'd be in trouble if I didn't send the money. When I called this number  I left a message to never call or send "friendly reminders" again.
Don't trust these people. Not sure who they are, but AM very sure that their tactics are unethical at the least.
