It says: no obligation to pay, no purchase or subscription, no shipping and handling. No truth in the ad???? If anyone knows, please let me know.

- Steve replies to Jean| 21 repliesI just got the same letter. I don't know if it's a scam or not. I'm googleing it, but haven't found much.
- Steve replies to Jean| 24 repliesBummer. I think that it's a Nigerian scam. There's a website called 419eater. I can't get into it, because I did not sign up for it. If you google it, you can read a little about it, what google returns. If it's too good to be true.....it is.
- Cory replies to Steve| 19 repliesI received the same letter. I looked up the website for Gifts by Monet and read in the Terms and Conditions, near the bottom are the terms for the 7" tablet, at the very bottom it states that if you call, "Unless otherwise stated in writing, we ask that you attend a sales presentation to receive your promotional gifts. The sales presentation will last 90 minutes." And (thanks to Ohio law) "OH residents: The purpose of this contact is to effect the sale of a membership travel program and an attempt will be made to induce you to undertake a monetary obligation. "

- Tom replies to Cory| 2 repliesNow this is a good way to vet potential scams. Thank you for reporting this one. I just received it in the mail and was pretty sure it was a scam. You saved me the trouble of hanging up on whoever answered the call.
- Harry replies to TomI received the same letter yesterday and googled TJ Johnson and have read all the comments. Clearly it's trouble and should be ignored. In addition, when I tried to find out who owns the phone number in the letter, there was "no information" on that number.

Here's what was posted:
Received a letter (US Mail / bulk mail) yesterday, April 26, 2012, transcribed below.
An outfit called T.J. Johnson and Associates is offering a free Andorid Tablet Computer in exchange for participating in a study.
Checking the website, http://www.giftsbymonet.com , it looks to me to be a ploy to get me to attend a time share presentation, or maybe worse.
So why do I post this here? Doing a Google search of the name T.J. Johnson and Associates, the first hit is:
Nigerian and other internet scams: Barrister T.J Johnson
scamsoutofafrica.blogspot.com/2009/04/barrister-tj-johnson.html
which reads in part:

Barrister T.J Johnson

(LEGAL PRACTITIONER)
Plot 85/87, Western Link Avenue,

Hello Dear,
It is obvious that this proposal will come to you as a surprise; this is because we have not met before but I am inspired to sending you this email following the huge fund transfer opportunity that will be of mutual benefit to both of us.
However, I am Barrister T.J Johnson (SAN.), Attorney to the late Engr. Ronald Walter, a national of Northern American, who used to work with Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in Nigeria ………
****************************
The website, http://www.giftsbymonet.com , was created in January 2012 for only one year. This domain had previously expired in January 2000.
With the letter was a sheet “QUALITY SCALE SURVEY” asking me to rate such things as Screen Brightness, Battery Life, Durability, among other questions.
If it is a time share invite, other than time shares being incredibly poor investments, that in itself is not a scam.
However, #1- the T.J. Johnson name is odd, #2- the website is only registered for one year, #3- the signature on the letter is Claire Williams, Williams being a popular Nigerian scammer’s name.
What ever it is, I’m not interested!
Any comments welcome.

Interesting.
A move back to basic snail mail.
Thinking about the trees murdered to aid the lad's scam makes me unhappy.
Very unhappy. Evil or Very Mad

I called the number, just to see what was up. After a lengthy script-read by a woman that I thought was a robot at first, it turns out that you can only get the tablet by going to an open house for a travel agency...that also wants to give attendees two vacations within the next year: A two-day trip for two anywhere in the U.S. (with airfare) AND a five-night cruise to the Bahamas. (The robot-woman repeatedly stressed that this is NOT a timeshare company.)
They claim they're just a travel company trying to build awareness for their brand, which they say is competing with the Pricelines and Expedias of the world, and that this is the only advertising they do.
From some Internet snooping, it turns out that the tablet appears to be a no-name "Nextbook" Android tablet.
Since I'm an iPad fanatic, and the open house is two hours from my home, I decided to pass. - america firstI to received the letter. Came here and saw all of you who reported it as I usually do. Just for fun I spent a few minutes looking around and found that TJ Johnson in Whitehouse Texas, Nigeria, Gifts by Monet, the phone number, etc all seemed to connect in one way or another and appeared to lead nowhere...I did not call the number.....It's a good one for the unsuspecting and the elderly though. With a presorted first class too. Somebody put a little work into it.
Good job guys.. - Joy| 1 replyI also got this letter, I feel it a 'SCAM' ...
- Rushtrails| 2 repliesI received it...was actually going to call and I KNOW better. Good thing I found this site and all of you confirming my worst fear about this offer. Ahh…the temptation of something FREE!

- knower replies to Steveit is a scamer he send a note i looked him up it said dont give a deal to him so watch out
- Andrea| 21 repliesI just called the number. It was definitely a telemarketer reading a script. However, since all you have to do is receive the documentation, I'm letting them send it. They already have my address, so I didn't have to reveal anything else about myself. By the way, my husband is Nigerian... Not ALL Nigerians are scammers; and not all scammers are Nigerian! Just thought I'd throw that out there. So we'll see what we get in the mail... Yes, she did say it was a way to market Global Travel; and maybe it IS a timeshare presentation. I've been to many a timeshare presentation. Other than the horribly pushy sales tactics, the freebees of the trip are worth it to me. We'll see.
