they keep calling my best friends dad and telling him that i used him as a reference, but i never have!!! they called twice now! i thought it was illegal to contact a third party

8/24/09.  I keep getting calls for a Marcos Stephanopolis.  A message was left yesterday evening by a Elizabeth Valasquez @ 888-319-0986 referencing a file #17602756 requesting a call back.

I called the number noted and advised that our telephone conversation would be recorded.  I once again re-iterated, as I have in the past that NO ONE by the name they are referencing has ever lived at my residence with my home phone number.  I asked if this was another collection call for this person.  She stated, "what makes you think this is a collection call'?.  I told her that Bank of America had a collections affiliate that was verified and calling my home all the time looking for this person.  I thought it had stopped, but now you are calling me!  I requested that she take my home phone number off of her list.  She agreed to do it.

What good is the 'DO NOT CALL' list if no one abides by it!

05/06/10, i keep getting calls from 888 319 0986 ext 1056, Dimitri, saying that there was a pending balance with Citibank MC ,rude, / i called Citi to verify if there wasan account pending, they search with my social security #and told me that there were no accounts pending with my name or SSN,, i don't know who those people are, but he say that i better get a lawyer, and maybe i should so i can sue the pants off those jerks!!! OTHER # 602 639 4195, 623 930 0356, THEN MULTIPLE UNKNOWN #,

Someone by the name of "Pete Sully" ext 1100 called me and wants me to call back. I don't know who this is and won't call back just because they want me too!

Got a letter from them today on a charged off account that seems to be accruing interest.  The letter 's return address was:

I have been reading many blogs recently that indicate that debt colectors will try and collect on a debt that you do not owe.  They get away with it since no one pushes back.  You can contact the FTC regarding the matter - violation of Fair Debt Collection Practices Act  Check your credit report to see if they have placed information about the bogus debt on your report - which would be a violation of the FCRA.  You can report them to your states attorney general - consumer affairs dept.  And see if there is a consumer practices attorney in your area who will take the case - most often they will take the case on contingency.  Check

I just received a phone call by the same person. He asked for an alternate number to contact me and insisted the matter was urgent. I have no accounts pending with any business. Sketchy.

I got this same message!!!  Same name and extention, but doesn't say the name of the agency that he is calling from.

Pete called me looking for someone at my number when I told him that no one by that name lived there he became rude and threatening.  I did ask that I be remove form the call list it did take a few weeks to get the calls to stop.  What is the do not call list for.

I just received call from ARS's (re ext.1261) asking to call back without identifying the nature of business. She sounded firm and professional, but also fake, which indicates to me a collection intent. I think the name ARS was selected on purpose to sound similar to IRS.

That reminded me about 2 unrelated collection agencies calling me for 3 years after I got a "new" phone number from my local telco. Apparently, the number belonged few month ago to somebody they were trying to collect from.  I am not proud of it but the only way I stopped 3-year long abuse was that I cursed off their supervisor in the most vivid language I was capable of.
