This is Brown Stein and Weissman. They are trying to con you into paying an illegitimate debt using fear of prosecution and arrest. They recently changed their phone number from 800-781-3445 because so many people had caught on. Google that number if you want to know about them. If they call you, hang up, do not give them any information and file a report with the Georgia State Attorney Generals Office and the AG in your state.

They called me threaten my son with arrest if he did not pay the balance for a payday loan which he says he never had.

I was so afraid that I made arrangements with them to pay the loan off because I thought they were a real law firm.  They got my bank account number and was supposed to take 1 payment from my account every 2 weeks for a total of 2 payments during the 4 week period.  As soon as I got off the phone with them they drafted my checking account that very same day and of course it overdrew my account.  Three days later, they drafted my account again, overdrawing the account again.  They have drafted my account for a total of 4 times stealing $600.00 from me.  I have been trying to talk to my bank about what I can do about this but they tell me that there is nothing I can do because I gave them the information and even though I did not authorize them continue to draft my account, they can continue to do so.

I would love to be able to help to bring this company down and maybe make their lives as miserable as they have made mine.

A word to the wise, you should NEVER deal with ANY collection agency that starts throwing around terms like "check fraud" or other terms that make it sound as if there is a criminal act involved with a consumer debt.  Debts are civil matters; not criminal and agencies that use terms that make it sound as if a crime has been committed are themselves criminals - they are trying to scare you into paying them and by doing son they are breaking Federal law and likely your state's law as well.  If they sue you then they sue you...and you deal with it but collection agencies that so flagrantly break the law themselves cannot be trusted and cannot be dealt with in any reasonable manner.

I have dealt with them as well. I have filed a complaint with the FTC and the state of Georgia and the state of Georgia sent them notice to ceases and desist. I also sent them a certified letter advising them to send in writing proof of this debt and to cease calling me. They continue to call and at this point I am considering legal action against them. It is one thing when you are contacted in a legal manner for legitimate debts, but this company seems to be anything but legitimate.
