Odd message when giving local number to call- ten digit number worded as number 9,055,686,221 (Had to listen to that a couple of times to figure it out.)

Collections

The man's name is John Abella.  He works for D & A Collections.  After emailing the info@dacollections.com, I received a reply from him.  His email address is John.Abella@dacollections.com.  Here is the text of the message he sent me

I got a call to but I don't owe anything why do they call

Reçu téléphone de 888 395 1147 13 septembre 2010. C'est message téléphonique me demandant de rappeler Mme Guertin à ce numéro en dedans de 24 heures. On me donne un numéro de dossier 2015....... Qu'est-ce que c'est?... Si je peux trouver ce no sur internet!!!! Je ne rappellerai pas.

A female from "D and B Corporation" called and left a mesage on my voice-mail asking that I call back and quote reference number XXXXXXXX.  The number she gave to call her back was 1-888-395-1147, ext. 6207, but the number that showed-up on my phone was 905-507-8889.  I smell BS and I don't owe anything that I'm not already well aware of, and none of it hs gne to collections.

I wish they would be more informative about the nature of their calls. Simply saying, " ... call me at this number, 905-..." doesn't prompt me or tempt me to call them.

I have had the same problem, with this number as many above have. They contacted me, asking me if i lived at a certain address, then i never confirmed and they continued to tell me i owed money to bell canada for said amount of money. I thought it smelt fishy, considering i never have had anything from that company, in my name. I asked for them to send me a email stating, and proving what it was, they never sent it, nor answered and more of my calls?

I get a call without a message being left on a machine, or the Caller ID identifying themselves. If this is indeed a collection agency, you'd think the caller would identify themselves in the initial sentence. I live in a shared residence, who are they looking for?

It's likely your number is fairly new, and perhaps belonged to the person they are looking for.  I suggest answering the call and confirm as such.  If they indeed have the wrong number and person, they will move on and take steps to find the proper info.  Until they confirm further, chances are they will continue to call as it's the last known number they have.

Not telemarketers. A collections agency looking for someone and obviously have the wrong (yours) number for the targeted person.
I just called them and they simply removed my number from the file. Simple.
I would say they are a legitimate organization with bad info.

They called me on Monday saying I owe money to the td bank for an account I had with my then boyfriend. He is paying off the bill through government sponsored debt payment. However, they are coming after me for the amount they SAY I owe. Td bank has NEVER contacted me. The woman, Kim Pattingger(sP) left a very nasty message for me on Monday. I had no idea what this was about and when I called back she was verbally abusive and mocked me when I asked her to please not interuppted me. I had a severe anxiety attack and haven't been able to sleep since.I called her back and asked her to not call me as her behaviur was causing me to hav a panic attack. I have been struggling with depression and anxiety with suicidal ideation for the past year. She knew that, I told her enough but she would call and let the phone ring and ring and ring. I broke down and called her and begged her to please, i begged her to please leave me alone for a bit but she just hung up on me. I have not received anything in writing from them and I have not received anything in writing from the td that this was going to collection. I am unable to cope with this as the only safety I have is my home. That is now gone and I can't cope. I 'm writing a letter to the people at mental health that have been helping me to say that this is going on. That way, when I kill myself over the stress of this abuse, my family can contact kim and let her know that she helped push me over the edge.

dont think that way just change your phone number to private number and [***] em no more calls its that simple thats what im gonna do they just started calling me i didnt know who it was till now again [***] em no one has the rite to treat people that way

You may would like to get in contact with a credit counsellor office. Maybe they will
help to stop those NASTY calls.
Search on internet for "Collection Agency Act".

WHAT TO DO IF THE COLLECTION AGENCY IS BEING ABUSIVE:
Ask for the person’s full name and obtain the correct spelling.
Ask for his or her phone number and fax number.
Ask for an account or reference number.
If they are being abusive or harassing you, inform them that you will tape the conversation.
Makes notes of the conversation and whether that person was yelling, threatening or swearing at you. If necessary, hang up the phone.

Call them and find out..who you can contact in your province !!!!!

They are collections agency and the government may hve split the account in a half. if u know the original amount owing ask them if its half the gov paid his half u have to pay the outstanding amount

Have received many messages asking for a person with the same last name but different first name to call back regarding a file ##### same number with extension to call back person who is from D & A for bank X.

I have already answered their call (when home) twice telling them there is no one by that name here,nor has there ever been. They thank me and hang up.... Still the calls come in from different employees there.

I guessed it was a collections agency, and as I have no debt, and it's not under my name, I ignored this for awhile.  Now, I'm researching to see what my rights are, for my province (seems a provincial matter).

I highly recommend this site: www.collections-call.ca  This will provide phone-numbers for your provincial rep, and a summary of the laws that all agencies must follow.  It has a good FAQ, article page and tips.  The site must be put up by a generous person who was probably abused too.

I haven't been verbally bullied as yet, however the repeated phone calls are annoying.
My next research will be to find the Canadian Acts on phone-call harassment and the DNCL "do not call list". I am already listed there, however, the legislation exempts all companies that are 'survey' 'charity' and companies you're already doing business with.

My only concern is someone may have used my address to take out a loan with fictitious credentials, and the bank is trying to get their money back....   (but I'm only guessing).
