claimed to be from HSBC Security center-  8884167319 - wanted me to enter my account number...not happening.

It's legit. I checked the number with HSBC security on the back of the card and they verified.

It's legit. They don't ask you for any credit card numbers. Just wait to talk to an agent who will transfer you to the Security Department. The reason for the call is your credit card was used to purchase items from a business that is usually used during credit card theft. They use these transactions to make sure the account is valid before going on a shopping spree. Validate your online account to see if you have any pending transactions or charges that you didn't make.

It is legit as the two people above stated although i, too, verified by calling the number on the back of my card. Its not necessary to call the number stated in the message as the customer care rep I spoke with was able to verify the "suspicious" charges when I called to verify...so since you're gonna have to call, why not call the number on the back of your card? :)

this is a scam, there are many posts all over the place saying they all called the number on the back of their card and were told "it's legit" every single posted uses a few of the same phrases including "the number is legit" and "called the number on the back of my card to be safe." it is certainly well thought out considering they are clearly using the internet to back themselves up, but i really hope no one falls for it.
