Looks like its probably a marketing call from Verizon about texting - this guy received marketing texts from verizon with 888-453-1918 included as a callback number (and I am now pretty sure that I have received them - and deleted them - too)  -  http://patrickrexroat.blogspot.com/2008/05/24615-sir.html

It's actually a phishing scam.  first they send you a bogus text about being over your calling/texting limit w/ a fake Verizon phone number, and follow up with a bogus phone call.  They are hoping that people will either call the number in the text or answer the phone, and give them account info.  Don't do it, or you will regret it.

I agree with the Verizon phishing scam line below.  It seems it's them.  Don't call them back.

Yes, I got that "bogus text about being over your calling/texting limit" yesterday.  Then this number called me today.  I knew I couldn't be anywhere near a limit, so I ignored the text, but went online to check my account.  Ignore these guys.

This is Verizon trying to SPAM you with upsell messages.  I just checked with them on whether this was a phishing spam (had received calls and text messages), and I got a reply that it was Verizon.  Instead of leaving it at that, I got more messages on my home AND cell numbers, AND an email, suggesting I upgrade my plans.  I don't appreciate unsolicited emails from anyone.  Shame on you, Verizon!

In a cynical age such as this, you could say that Verizon is trying to "upsell" you something, but if it's what I think, they would make more money by not calling and letting you go over one of your limits.  Note that the call occurs before you go over the limit.  For the record, here is my experience:

I got a text message yesterday, from Verizon, saying I was on track to incur overage charges.  I looked up my account online and, indeed, my account was 100 minutes from being over the limit (my son had been talking to his girlfriend while on Spring break and had used 500 minutes in one week, putting us within 100 minutes of the limit).  Then today I got a call from the 888-453-1918 number but missed the call, and they left no message.   The identical sequence (TXT then CALL) happened two years ago during a family emergency out of town when I was using a large number of minutes.  At that time they DID ask for my cell phone number and name when I answered, but it was legitimate.  They offered to put me on a plan with more minutes but I declined and was careful for the next week until the month was over.  When I had SPRINT and went over, they just sent me a huge bill so I appreciate the courtesy call.  Of course, since I didn't answer this time I cannot be sure it was Verizon, but it is the same pattern as two years ago.

YES it is VerizonWireless trying to up sell you on either minutes and/or texting plan or BOTH. I received an email yesterday stating that I was on track to go over my minutes and/or text msg plan. I went online and I had indeed gone over my allotted text mgs. Today I received a call from this number. I did not answer the call. They did not leave a message.
