Got the exact same call, refused to identify whether they were a law firm or gvnmnt agency, and had an 800 number.  Junk.

We have received this call numerously.  Asking for someone who does not live here.  Just heard from daughter and they called her too.

Today I actually got a case # so when they were called they could give out the information of a court date.

Further, my number was changed three weeks ago, unlisted..and any research shows my old number. Now, also, my daughters name isn't even close to our family name.  But the looks of this thread we are all being duped.

These people would not give me any information , they called me Mr Attitude and they were the ones that were calling me regarding my mother who died 21 years ago. I dont understand what they are so secret about. I am going to pursue this.

I got this call on May 20, 2011 they said they were sending a subpoena for my husband. Nothing came. Now I got this call again today giving me a case # & the 888# to call back. Now the message is saying me & my husband are going to be subpoenaed. And they have my address. They also said if they are unable to subpoena us that the court would proceed without us. I have no idea what this is about. I tried looking up the case number under our state's public record base & found nothing. Also under mine & my husbands name there was nothing as far as any kind of cases or judgements. Is this for real or a scam?

I received it as well with a man that threatened me in order to get a hold of my husband.  It was a debt collection agency.  They had left a previous message in regards to my brother in law..and were contacting us to get info about him.  This is ridiculous!!!!  This is obviously a shady company..does anyone know where they are calling from (state?)?

    Unbelievable
Continental Finance Credit Cards use this ploy to "enforce payment" and claim they are suing in court and need your address to "serve a summons".
Just another collection agency getting smarter and scaring people into thinking they will be arrested.
    Pathetic.

So after playing along with the supervisor of legal, Ryan Jones he informed me that they can "settle" for a tiny amount of original debt and mail a money order to:

For anyone interested in this firm, they are on the up and up. I had them checked out by the better business bureau and several other agencies. If you pay the agreed upon lesser amount that is made in the offer they will not summons you to court and will dismiss the case and no judgement will be filed. If you however chose to go to court they will tack on about $1000 extra in legal fees and court costs. I just went through the process with them and paid $971 in a matter of 30 days in 3 separate money gram payments and they did not file the suit against me and reported this account paid in full on my credit report. If you chose not to pay and go to court they can award them judgement against you and garnish your wages up to 35% in most states until the debt is collected. I was skeptical and thought it was a scam but I looked up the case # in the court system and it is legit. Like I said I also had this agency checked out and they are a legal firm.

Attorney from Florida replies to Susanne

This is actually false.  The federal maximum garnishment in any state is 25% most states are actually less.  I likely believe this is a message from the collector themselves.  If you receive a call from this company threatening you contact a local attorney regarding a potential FDCPA violation based on the company misleading you regarding the status of this account.  Each call and misrepresentation is a violation that has a fine payable to you of up to $1,000, plus your attorney fees and costs.  They cannot summons you to court unless they hire a licensed attorney within your state.  The court proceedings will not proceed without you actually being served.  All of this is a lie, you may owe money but that gives them no right to collect in illegal manners.  These are actually crimes, unlike owing money on a credit card.

Susanne (not a real name) is a lying sack of crap who works for that company. Like the attorney from FL said, they are worse than shady, they're breaking the law too. I hope they roast in HE-double toothpicks.

Just got a call from this number, they called my job and told my co-worker how they've tried to serve me twice already and that if I don't receive the last subpoena, they will take me to court. First of all, I don't remember owing anyone anything at this point. Secondly, isn't it illegal to tell other people the business of the call but the actual person they need to contact?!!! I work for a law firm and I know how papers are served.. and the funny thing is that I'm the first person to receive them. Seriously, attempted 2 times... I doubt it. I'm not sure if I should call them or just wait for them to "serve" me again today. Let's see if they send it over.

    To OlDaddy44,
You MIGHT have the california address right, I don't know. All I can find on a map comparing the phone number is somewhere in North America. However, the fax number is from Ontario, Canada. Look it up on google. It's all a big scam.
