- Sandi| 1 replyI have received two calls from a David West from Thomas Brown & Assoc. The number that he said to call back was 888-830-8620 and he was calling on a time sensitive matter and if I didn't call back all my rights would be forfeited and they would pursue me to the full extent of the law. He even quoted a "case" number starting with PDL. When I conducted a Reverse Phone Number lookup, it said Unknown person and Unknown location. I'm not going to humor him and return his call.

- John MartinezMy wife received a phone call from 888-830-8620 Ext 403 Steven Shaw .
I called them back on my cell phone and they wouldn't tell me if they were a law firm.
When they called my wife they said they represented Thomas Brown and Associates.
I looked up Thomas Brown and Associates on the BBB web site and its a realestate comp.
they told my wife she had 24 hrs to respond or she would be taken to court.
They said they had video surveilance of her .
I asked them to fax a copy of the check so I could verify her signature. They wouldn't.
I told them to send me an email with something showing proof . they didn't do that either- Call type: Debt collector
- BCPeople from this number (888-818-4465) called several times in the last couple of days only left a message the last time and the message said they were from Thomas Brown and Associates and I was to call back 888-830-8620 and that he was calling on a time sensitive matter and if I didn't call back all my rights would be forfeited and they would pursue me to the full extent of the law. He quoted a "case" number starting with PDL same as one of the posts above. I did call them back and found out they in fact are collection agents for several PayDay Loan companies but somehow got my number by mistake. They said they would remove my number and would not call again. I will wait and see if that is the case.

- BearMy teenager received three phone messages from this number (888) 830-8620 on her cell phone from a Lynn Parker at Thomas and Brown Associates saying that she was calling on an urgent matter regarding a document they had in their office associated to her social security number and name! Caller ID from recent calls listed the number as (111) 111-1111 unknown. When I called back the phone just rang and rang and then clicked and went back to a dial tone. Then I called again and got Lynn Parker and she sadn they were a collections agency and were looking for someone who was not me, but she said the processor for the claim had my daughter's cell number listed as a possible reference to this person. n She said she would take her number off their call list and not too worry because the social security number they were calling about wasn't mine or hers, but was attached to the person they were trying to find. She said she couldn't give me the social security number they were calling about, only the last 3rd and 4th numbers of it if I gave her the last 2. I said I would rather not.

- MN personThey are calling my relatives and claiming I have a bad check - I haven't had a checking account in over 5 years! Do not call them back - report them for harrassment and fraud. They are claiming they are a law office - this is incorrect and also fraudulent practices for debt collectors. They have to legally provide you in writing proof of the debt. They cannot do this. Even when you pay the debt they continue to harrass you and your relatives at home and work. If you can find them, sue them. They will also get a number in your area and call you from that number.

They ending up taking 600 dollars out of my account and I couldnt do anything about it cause I autorized the transaction. Be careful and hire a lawyer if you can

- TenkaMy friend got a call from them saying my SSN and name was involved in a case with the state and I needed to call back. I did and spoke to a Ms. Steinberg who told me it was because of a quick cash loan i had taken out years ago that the day manger gave me an extension on but the night manager vetoed. After a good 20 minutes of explaining my situation to her that I was not home, I was on vacation with my parents, and having a perfectly civil and even pleasant conversation I accidently disconnected the call. Upon IMMEDIATELY calling back I spoke with a Don Bender who after trying to transfer me back to her informed me she made a notation on my case that I was "showing to be unwilling to cooperate" and that she wasn't "going to deal with me anymore and take the case immediately to the advocate". Once again I was explaining the situation to Don and I hear a click, freak out because I think I've disconnected, and find out his supervisor was now on the line because he was having a hard time convincing his supervisor I wasn't just making [***] up so I wouldn't have to pay. After a while I was informed I could either pay a one time $255 fee by the 29th (6 days away) or pay $217 on the 29th and another $217 on the following month. In the end I paid but I still don't feel confident that it's completely legit and not just a group of people who got their hands on my information.

- MacGillicutty replies to J ChrisI don't have a payday loan. I don't owe anyone money. They are a scam, and when I called to ask them to stop calling me, they hung up on me. They aren't registered debt collectors either.
- MacGillicuttyIt is a scam perpetrated by a fraudulent law firm/debt collector (they have claimed to be both) in FL. They call from a number that answers as Thomas Brown and Associates, but direct you to call a host of other numbers. I understand from reading about them, that they are not certified to collect debts in any state - I doubt they are a law firm either. Several different people have answered or left messages using the same two (fake) names. They never actually say you owe them money, but threaten legal action to the "full extent of the law", or reference papers you need to sign. A search of the other numbers they have called me from shows that other people have been conned into sending them money they did not owe - thinking wrongly that they were paying off a payday loan. I contacted the FTC about them a month ago, and now they are calling from new numbers. Report them all they numbers they call from and the ones they refer you to - keep your case number and keep reporting them.
First, register on the National "Do not call" database: https://www.donotcall.gov/register/reg.aspx
After 30 days, contact the registry again and file a complaint.
Also, file a complaint with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/. Give them dates and times and transcribe the messages. They may ask that you contact the people to tell them to stop harassing you, but in my experience they will just hang-up on you when they realize you aren't going to eagerly send them money. They also wanted another number that they could contact me at - as if.- Caller: Thomas Brown and Assoc.
