These people keep calling inquiring about my AMEX card and phishing for information.  I have asked them to remove my number 12 times, but they keep calling.  When I call AMEX they have no idea who these people are and would never ask account info over the phone unless verifying.  8-10 calls over the last 2 weeks.

Called early Saturday AM - claimed to be AMEX - wanted account information.  This is a phishing number trying to get American Express Card Holder's information.

Its a phishing scam asking for account info. It isn't a collection agency and isn't American Express. My sources have told me that they are already zero'd in on it and their day in court will be sooner than later. Really, go ahead and pump your fist in joy as I did upon hearing this. Yeahhhh.

These people claim to be AMEX, but they aren't, and if you give these people your details, prepare to have an empty balance.

They are thieves, crooks and deserve to be publically executed.

They called 3 nights in a row at the same time, so I called the number and the recording prompted me to key in my AmEx number. Didn't.

I've been receiving DAILY calls from this number... same claim as above.  I called Amex and it is NOT an Amex number - clearly a scam.

I called the number, got a recorded voice asking for my American Express 15-digit number.  I don't have AmEx so I made up a number and got a live person who thanked me for calling American Express and asked for my name.  That's when I hung up.

i actually work there and i think you either "a"  need to have the remove the number or "b" pay your [***] bills dumbass. and trust me were not going to court. its just a new dept in amex and not all employees are familure with it yet. you all need to calm down and pay what you already owe.

I called the number 888-892-6180 and it said American Express enter your 15 digit number, I did not key it in, but gave "some guy" my information.  Then got an uneasy feeling so I called the real Amex (from the back of the card). and had them check on the 888-892-6180 number. She said it IS American Express and that they called me in error. Usually these go out to people who are not current on their payments, but my account was just fine. So she said that it was a mistake, and would have my number removed from the list.

I've been hounded every day for the past week; fortunately the call always went to my voicemail.  Same recorded message each time, to call re: "important business matter".  I figured that it was some kind of telemarketer and never returned their call but thought I'd better investigate further.  Glad I did!

Just got a call from them looking for my daughter in law! Told them they had the wrong number but left out the part that I knew the person they were calling about. Called the number back and said it was AM EX and to enter your card number.

I called American Express 1-800-528-4800 and they confirmed it IS one of their phone numbers! I told them there is no such person at this residence and that this person just happens to have the same first initial and last name as me! I told them they have no business calling just because I happen to have the same initial and no business leaving a message not identifying themselves. They said it was a "misdialed number" and I said no that's not true because the person they asked for has the same last name as me!

IT'S AMERICAN EXPRESS, GUYS. It's not a scam, or a collection agency. Call the number on the back of your American Express card and ask to be put through to the credit department. They'll tell you 888-892-6180 is their outgoing number.

I received the suspicious call this afternoon, thought it sounded odd, googled the number, found this page, got anxious, called the number on the back of my Amex card (an entirely different number) and the representative told me I'd missed a payment on my card. I'd been traveling so I made the payment over the phone, and asked her about the suspicious call. Before I could even give her the number she asked "Was it 888-892-6180?" She said "That's us, the credit department."

End of story. Don't believe the nonsense you read here -- just check it out for yourself. If you're being hounded daily by the automated message then you've either missed a payment, or Amex's Credit Dept has made a mistake. Call 'em either way!
