- Laurie| 6 repliesUSAA is using a company called Marshall & Swift to call their HO policyholders & obtain updated information as to the value of their homes, contents etc. They say it is to ensure that your are adequately insured. Most people I have heard from say that within days of answering the questions they receive an increased policy premium notice. Yet another carrier trying to obtain information in order to justify a rate increase. This company will call REPEATEDLY but will not leave a voice mail message because they know that you won't call them back.

- cmacie replies to Laurie| 2 repliesThank you for the info - I just got a call too, didn't answer, no message left. USAA has sent me surveys in the mail multiple times so what you say makes sense. Nothing really significant about my home has changed since I bought it other than decor type things so I did not complete it. I was layed off a few months ago and don't need extra stuff to do other than job search. And I sure don't need them to up my policy fees just so they can make some more money off of me.....they already up the value of my home often enough in order to increase the fees. I am not at all sure I could sell it for what they decide it is worth.
- Unhappy USAA Policyholder replies to cmacie| 1 replyThey claim it is to ensure that my rebuilding costs are adequately covered, ...yeah, pretty transparent preamble to a rate hike. With unemployment so high, labor rates low, and the value of most homes on the decline, ...you would think they would be lowering premiums, but not so. Most insurance companies play the market with their reserves, and after having taken a bath there the last couple of years, they expect to restock their reserve accounts by sticking it to their policy holders. They have raised by auto insurance about 20% every six months for the last three premium cycles. I haven't filed a claim on any of my policies, and my cars are getting older (depreciating) so their values are going down too. Yeah, USAA has turned out to be a big disappointment. I don't answer when their outsourced survey-[***] call.
- SarahJust got a call, I picked up no one talked; so I searched...Glad to know what they are doing. We do have USAA, I'm not sure we have their homeowner policy. Maybe that is why they did not talk to me.
- Caller: Marshall Swift
- David BuschhornI keep getting the call too. I love the internet! They just raised my car insurance rates as well. Not a lot. From $289/6mo for full coverage on my 2006 Mustang GT (no complaints about that!), to $315/6mo.
- Caller: Marshall Swift
- Annoyedin TxI have USAA and got this call today. Didn't answer and no vm. Hmm.
- Caller ID in Cali| 1 replyHave had several calls form "Marshall Swift" during Dinner time and on weekends and I will NOT be disturbed. Left no message here as well. With Caller ID I will not answer and I am also with USAA. USAA can contact me in another manner if they really want me!
- 'Caller ID in Cali' replies to Caller ID in CaliGot another call tonight @ 8:06 PM.....not at all OK to be calling this late and during family time! Very bad manners M&S....very, very bad.
- Tea Party Tax PayerI too received the call at 10:56 am April 15th, 2010. I have now received 2 mailings, now the calls are starting. It's a shame USAA resorts to these low-life tactics under the guise they are "helping you".
As soon as I received the first mailing I knew a premium hike would be imminent, so guess what, when and if they do get me on the phone, my answer will be nothing has changed from the last time you issued my policy last year.
I have benn a USAA member since 1985. Several times I've tried to switch to lower my rates, but they always beat the competition.
Maybe they should stop issuing the end of year "Christmas Check" for your savings account that you can't tap and stop increasing our rates. - A USAA Member| 2 repliesI am not happy with USAA at all about contracting Marshall & Swift / Boeckh (MSB) to contact me to update the information about my home characteristics to determine the replacement value of my home. My home has not changed since I insured it with USAA. Nor am i interested in incurring higher insurance costs by modifying my replacment value.

- MajorWoodyI called USAA and asked them if they are using this survey to raise our rates...The woman said they are just using this to ensure that my replacement value is up to date...Righttttttttt...I was born but it wasn't yesterday...In this obamaconomy I don't need any more costs added, I need income...

- Ozbod| 1 replyEvery year I receive one of USAA's surveys, fill it out and return it. The next year, the original information is on it. They never change anything I send in to correct. They're using public records, and the majority of what's on mine is for the exact same house across the street. For example, our neighborhood is all electric; MSB lists that we use gas. They say my house is all brick; it's not. They say I have wallpaper and ceramic tiles; I don't. I was about to mail a nasty-gram in the paid return envelope; however, once I saw their number on caller ID and researched it, I'm not. What's sad is that our mortgage is with them and they HAVE all the CORRECT info they need. I shouldn't be receiving all these requests for updates.
And, USAA keeps raising my vehicle rates every six months as well, particularly the past 2 yrs after my second ever wreck (which was 18 yrs after my first one!), and was rear-ended by another USAA member! HELLLO!! grumble. Sorry, got on my soap box.- Caller: MSB USAA
- J. BanksExactly what you said it was. USAA (after multiple attempts via mail survey). Didnt leave a message. But I am with everyone else, fairly common tactic to raise rates with no real value behind it. Thanks everyone!

- Unhappy in FLGood thing for this site. They called while I was at work today. I got home and checked this site to get this valuable info. Definitely don't need any insurance hikes on a house that isn't worth anything these days. Why pay more for something that builders are putting up for 50% or more less than your house is worth? Does that mean they will be granting us a discount since builders can build for cheaper than we pay now for our current mortgages? NOT!!
- MarcyThanks for the info. I too received a USAA survey and now a phone call. Tricky!
- Angry USAA OregonianEverything said above about USAA and its new tactics is what I am discovering too.
Every year they want to resurvey and NOTHING changes in a year!
Irritating!!- Caller: USAA third party

- Daniel replies to Laurie| 1 replyI got a call from this number today. They have tried to call me at work, but I tell them I can't have personal calls during the workday, so now they call me in the evening. I have not sent in the requested house questionairre. If the info was important, they should have collected it several years ago when they insured the home. If they want more info, they need to send someone to my house. I find it hard to believe that if my house burns down, they will just cut me a check based off what boxes I checked on this form. I will not be completing it and turning it in. This site is excellent, by the way, very helpful to know I'm not the only one getting these calls.
- Daniel replies to DanielP.S. In general I have been very happy with USAA, and have used them for multiple services over the years. I think they just chose poorly with regard to this matter. Every time I have dealt with them the customer service has been great - the agents are typically very helpful and knowledgeable.
- mj replies to LaurieHi
Please report this to USAA in writing.

They are a third party company collecting information to use against you in the case of loss. They are very rude and keep calling me late in the evening. One of the telemarketers told me that they get a commission by collecting your personal information. They also record the conversation so you could be incriminating yourself. USAA told me to refuse to answer any personal questions. - USAA Member| 1 replyThank God for this site... I've been getting these calls for months thinking it was a company I had phoned once to inquire about buying coins and so I never answered the calls!
I've been relatively happy with USAA over the years but this takes the cake.
I also just got a form in the mail...first one I've ever received.
It also says somewhere on the form that if you don't return it they will just "continue with
your policy as if nothing has changed." Interesting, huh?
