It's a collect call from somebody who's in jail

Does anyone know what jail this is from?  In the last 16 hours I've received 5 calls from someone I've never heard of.  I would like to stop these calls.

Glad I'm not the only one getting these calls.  They are calling me up to 5 times a day as well.  What are they trying to gain?

On 11/17/11, I was a witness to a crime (in Cobb County, GA) & provided a witness statement to the police. That statement included my cell phone number. The next day (11/18/11), I received several calls from the above number (904-598-2893); a number I do not recognize. Today (11/19/11), I received 3 collect calls from the Duval County, FL jail. I did not accept those calls. After searching on the internet, I have discovered the 904 area code is the area code for Duval County, Jacksonville, FL. I can't help but believe there may be a connection. I do not know the name of the man arrested for the crime I witnessed. I'm sure I could get his name, if necessary. I know his brother showed up at the scene of the crime & was wearing a University of Florida sweatshirt. That makes me think he has a connection to Florida.

After I posted my message, I was able to see comments from others receiving collect calls from the same number. It looks like my collect calls & the crime I was witness to have nothing to do with one another. I'm not happy about the collect calls, but relieved to know it has nothing to do with crime I witnessed.

It's the Duval County Jail phone number for when someone is attempting to call you collect.  Be aware there is a scam going on, if you receive a all from an unavailable number and you answer then the recording says its a collect call HANG UP.  The unavailable number is a scam the one from 904 area code is ligit.

I keep getting a call saying to put in my credit card number... I'm pretty sure it's a scam as I live in TEXAS and have no close friends or family in Duval County jail.

So after calling Duval County Jail (to get to the bottom of this), I discovered that this number isn't even affiliated with them!!! This means that this phone number is FAKE! And the people who are scamming you ARE NOT INMATES!

HANG UP. Call your service provider to have the number blocked.

One more thing! If this number calls you report it to the FTC. Here is the website where you can report them! Let's get this fraud in jail!

They are collect calls from inmates in jail at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Jacksonville, FL. You must put $25 or $50 on your account (phone number) to be connected. It's not a scam. Unfortunately my brother is locked up and I spend about $25/ month to talk to him. Maybe you guys have a friend or family member that is locked up and needs help???

started getting calls from Jingle(s) at Duval County jail asking to accept collect call and set  up account

Its Global Tel link.  Its the system the duval county jail has for prisoners to make collect calls to their family as they are not allowed to the jail phones.  The person receiving the call can press a key on their phone to accept the call if they have a land line and can be billed.  otherwise they have to set up an account with the global tel link company .

This call is from the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office. The Duval County Jail. If a loved one or a friend was arrested and taken to lockup, this would be the number reflecting the third party operator trying to see if you would accept the collect call from jail

This number keeps calling me.  But when I say hello, I hear background talking but then it gets quickly disconnected.  When I try to call it back it is a fax number.  WHAT IS UP WITH THIS?
