The company is CBCS. When they called me they were looking for the wrong person

they called asking for the wrong person

I received the call 3 times in an hour and hung up each time.  It is a computer generated call asking me to wait while an agent becomes available.  I don't wait if someone calls me.  I only wait when I call someone or some business.
Is this method of calling legal?  I am on the do not call list.

The National Do Not Call list does not apply to collection agencies.  But they do have to follow the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act updated in 2006.

I  received  a  call  from  1-904-722-2265  asking  for  the  wrong  person.  I  had  to  run  from  the  shower to  answer  this  call.   I  slipped  and  fell.   So,  i  was  quite  angry.  I  decided  to  call  the  number  back  and  i  got  a  Mr. Eric Alison  who  responded  that  the  Company  is  CBCS,  Credit Bureau Collection Services, Inc.    I  asked  for  an  addrress  to  file  a  written  complaint.  He  gave  me  PO Bx 2589, Columbus, Oh. 43216.  I demanded that  my  publiclly  listed  phone number be  removed  from  CBCS's data base. He said  he  would comply.  The number  came  back  as  from  Jacksonville, Fla, 32211.   I suspect CBCS  KNOWS  that  my  phone  number  is  MY  phone number  and  was  calling  me  to  embarass  me  into  paying  my  brother's  debt.    That's  wire  fraud.   Anywone  know  who  these  people  are?  Or,  where  they're  actully  from?  Thanks, allergg at msn.com.

Automated call looking for someone not at this residence. Have only had this number for a week..just moved to this state...

revealed that others received a call from this
number.

Periodically calls asking for a person who (we know) but does not live here and is not related.

They have asked for alternative phone numbers and addresses for our friend but I feel that it is not my responsibility whatsoever to help them in their attempt to collect this debt.

I will never provide any information to them because I am neither an informant nor an employee of this company.

If anyone from the company is reading this, the next time you call and I inform you that this is "not the person's home" you will know you are wasting your time.  If you continue to request information, I will now provide you made-up phone numbers and addresses and nothing you receive from me will be true!

The numbers and addresses will be taken from other collection or scammer data listed on this site so no private citizen will be bothered.

They called my office phone @ 5:10PM.  Have no idea who they are or who they are looking for.

Multiple calls which I don't answer.  Voicemail message should let them know they have the wrong number, but they continue to call.

i get about 3 calls a week. when i called that number back; it had a recorded  answering type of machine. it identified itself as cbcs,and it wanted to put me on hold .finally really aggressive person came on the line. i had asked to be put on do not call list. he told me that for debt collection, they could call who and when ever they wanted. only problem other that this company being a pest and the employee who finally talked to me was...i had no idea who the individual was that they claimed  owed .money. do'nt waste your time calling these jerks back or anything they are a total waste of time

Look up the Fair Debt Collection Act online.  In Texas, there is a federal one and a state one.  Read what your rights are.  They CANNOT call you numerous times a day, and they can only call between certain hours, and they CANNOT harass you.  If you are not the person they are looking for and they continue to call you, you have certain rights with that too.  Anyone with questions look up the Statute.  It's public information.  And, yes, I am a legal assistant.

Just called the number (904-722-2265) back to talk to someone. They call at least twice a week and ask for Matthew Willis. No clue who that person is. Someone picked up after about 20 seconds on hold and they answered the phone "Matthew Willis". I told them he doesn't live here and they said ok we'll remove your number. I expected a fight and it was as easy as that. We'll see if they call again.

Looking for the wrong person

They called asking to speak to my two year old son, would not tell me what it the call was regarding til i verified my address not doing that especialy since they wanted to talk to my two yr old, he got very hateful, don't know what its about!

Whatever phone system they have calls a new number in a hour after the phone is set up. I bought this prepaid phone and as soon as I turned on the phome it received calls from this number. The phone stopped working after these phone and only worked when I called the phone number. I ask them why they "hacked "my phone.

They keep calling my job after hour and on the weekend. They don't leave a message just the number. I am glad I am not here all day. They need to get a life and not brothering people.

They keep calling my son cell phone.  He is not this Vicki person they are lookinh for.

You should run a credit report under your son's social to be sure he hasn't been a victim of identity theft.  Sounds crazy, but it does happen to children...companies don't do thorough searches, and parents don't think to check their child's credit report since they are under age, so people frequently get by with using a child's social for a number of things.  Just a thought!

These jerks not only used illegal means to illicit a payment from me, but also continued to call me AFTER the debt had been paid.
