Received a call from (908) 652-9176 - Caller said that his name was XXXX Wilson (I could not understand him as his English was very poor).  He indicated that he was calling from the Department of Treasury regarding an unfortunate incident and that if I didn't cooperate I could go before a Magistrate Judge and Jury, with possible jail time (up to 9 months).  This is a SCAM to the fullest and they are very convincing, in fact, they had me going for awhile.  I eventually asked to speak to his Supervisor or someone who could speak English, he connected me to "BOB", who was VERY forceful in his efforts to "help" me resolve the mistakes that appeared on "your portion of your 2012 1040".  I asked him why he wasn't contacting my husband as we file jointly and he is the primary on the tax return. He kept saying that it was MY portion of the return that had errors and that I owed the IRS $5,829 and how was I going to pay for it?  He said that he couldn't take any money and did not request any bank information, but, he did say that if I did not cooperate that they would confiscate all of my holdings, including my drivers license and that, if I hung up on him, there would be a warrant out for my arrest and federal deputies would arrive at my home within 45 minutes to "take you away".  Although I "suspected" that it had to be a scam, I stayed on the line and even went as far as calling my financial institution to increase my ATM withdrawal amount so that I could make a withdrawal, in cash, to resolve this "unfortunate situation".  He asked that I call my financial institution on my cell phone and insisted that I have them on speaker phone, as well as him.....I did it!!!  OMG!!!!  I was falling for it!!!  BUT, when speaking to my FI, I went into the other room so that he wasn't able to hear everything that I was saying, which included "secret codes" to gain access to my account.  I increased the amount so that I could withdraw the funds that he and I agreed I would be able to pay, with the remainder of the payoff in two weeks.......WHAT WAS I DOING??????  All the while he is harassing me, telling me that he is "helping" me more than he should be. And, all the time I'm questioning him, even at one point asking him if I was being "PUNKED"!!!  He had NO idea what that meant and scoulded me for questioning him.

So, I told him that I could get the money.  He said that I had to keep him on speaker phone as I went to the ATM and once I made the withdrawal to go to a Walmart not too far from my home.  Once I got into the parking lot of the Walmart, he gave me more instructions, OH, and all the while he's telling me that he's emailing the deputies telling them to put my arrest "on hold" until I confirmed that the funds had been put onto a MoneyGram. His instructions to me confirmed my suspicions, make the MoneyGram out to 'SHAWN CALVIN", Riversdale. CA.  Hmmmm, okay!  He said to be cool while in Walmart, that they may ask questions.  He instructed me to leave my cell phone on and put it in my pocket on speaker......so, I did. Once I got to the Customer Service area in Walmart, there is a sign there that said; "Beware of Scams....NEVER send money to someone you don't know"!!!!  FINAL RED FLAG!!!  I went up to the cashier and mouthed to her that I wanted a pen and paper......I wrote down that I thought that I was being scammed and explained the situation to her......she immediately confirmed my suspicions and I took my phone out of my pocket and hung up on him.  For a solid hour he tried calling me back, needless to say, I didn't answer.  I am totally disappointed in myself that I would fall for such a thing......but, "Bob" was so convincing.  I thank God for the lady at the Walmart as she confirmed my suspicions and gave me the courage to hang up on the jerk.

I'm telling you all of this because it CAN happen to you.  This could have been a devastating blow to me and my husband, both financially and personally!!!  I guarantee you that I will NEVER fall for something like this again.....I learned my lesson the hard way.
