caller says he is from the department of legal affairs for the U.S. treasury. I called multiple times and recorded these thieves. They are all Indian and most likely calling from India since I asked where his office was located and he said L.A.   Not with a 909 area code can your office be in L.A.  One caller even said go ahead and hang up because we will start legal action against you anyway. Their accents are very very heavy so good indication they are major scammers.

Same person and phone left a message with my daughter today saying there was a legal action against me. When I called back to the number I had to leave a message. "Jack Shepherd" called me back from (503) 389-4126 and said there was a cashiers check for an award waiting for and would be delivered tomorrow via UPS.  He asked if I would be available and I said no I had to work.  He asked what time I would be home.  I told him I was reporting him to the Oregon AG.  He asked what he should do with the award?  Take it?  I told him to go ahead.  It was a scam and I was reporting his number.

well, they left 2 messages on my parents' voice mail and the first one consisted with the same info as Joan's post.

The 2nd was a call back to threaten me.

My father called back to just double check and noticed that there was a lot of background noise- like at a call center- and asked the person for his name and the exact location of his department. The guy hung up on him.

Clearly a scam.

Called saying from Dept. Of Treasury and a legal action was being taken against my son.  Said they were in LA.  I asked for address and he said on LA Street!  Heavy Indian accent and I could hear others talking in the background.  My son was to call back to talk to an officer at the LAPD.

I received a call today and the person (also a strong Indian accent) claiming to be from the legal affairs departement of the US Tresury Dept asking for my son by name.  My son hasn't lived here for over 7 years.  He insisted that there was an outstanding legal issue that he was not at liberty to discuss with me and that he needed to speak to my son today; prior to issuing an arrest warrant.  He said his name was Agent John Marshall (clearly not an Indian name).  This is a SCAM.  When my son called him the guy asked for login information.  If anyone gets a call from this number...beware and of course never give out your login information.

BEWARE:  SCAM - SCAM - SCAM - SCAM  - Reported to Dallas Police Department - SCAM - SCAM - SCAM - SCAM.  

I got call from saying from Department of Legal Affairs, looks like translating there legal system to our doesn't sound right!!

Same exact scenario as above.  The man calling identified himself as Jack Shepherd.  Said legal action pending against my daughter for unpaid taxes from 2009 when she was 16 and not working.  Definitely a scam.

My husband called back and gave them some of their own medicine.  He was told to get a job, and quit harrassing Jack Shepherd so he could make money.

This SCAMMER has been calling 2-3 times a daily for the past 2 weeks. (909)440-9693   It's the same Indian voice, deep accent giving me different names, Tom, Jerry and Trey. He says he is calling from Dept of Legal Affairs US Treasury. They demand to speak to specific person and it's a legal issue. I have repeat told this foreigner he is scamming and stop calling me. So today, after the 2nd call from him today, I decided to repeat call back to him.  Lot's of back ground noise which he is in a call center. He got mad at me repeat calling him back, saying I was keeping him from doing his job. I told him his job is scamming people. He kept hanging up so I called him again. I ask him how does this feel repeat phone harrassement. He then spit out a ton of profanity and hung up on me again.  BIG SCAM

William was the name being used this time but he company was still the Dept of Legal Affairs.  Scam!

Just received a phone call from the Department of Legal Affairs for the US Treasury.  Very heavy Indian accent.  Couldn't pronounce my name correctly.  They indicated that there were several charges filed against me including filing my 2009 taxes late and that there was a warrant out for my arrest.  I told him that I didn't believe he was with the Treasury Dept so he offered to transfer me to an "officer".  I said GREAT!.  When the "officer" came on the line he had a very heavy accent as well, he asked if I was Janice Smith-that's not my name.  I said no.  He must have been looking at the next victims info.  He then read off the charges that had been filed against me.  I said that if I owe more taxes that maybe I should give him a credit card so that I could settle up.  He perked up and said that would be a great idea because he didn't want me to get arrested.....I said now tell me again why I haven't received anything in the mail.  Well, they tried to deliver 3 times, but no one was home.  I told him that was weird because I work from home and I'm here everyday AND if the dept of treasury was trying to send me a certified letter they would have left me a notice.....he hung up on me.

I'm telling everyone on this site that you are all in trouble and the treasury department is going to arrest the world tomorrow morning.  The whole world will be in custody so I suppose there will be a party by tomorrow afternoon.

These guys are a blast to mess with. They told me I was going to be arrested. I called them back and asked them to help me. So they put me on with a supervisor. When he got on I asked him what should I wear and if I could bring pets.

SCAM - In a thick foreign accent, he identified himself as being with the US Treasury Legal Department (or something close). He said there was pending legal action and this was our verbal warning. This was obviously a scam so I played along. He proceeded to ask questions and I gave some bogus info. Along the way, just to aggravate him, I kept telling him I couldn't understand his accent and asking him to repeat things. After about 5 minutes of repeating himself and collecting bogus info. He just hung up on me.

Here is the transcript from a voicemail message:  "This message is intended for L--------. This is Jack Shephard with the Department of legal affairs for the US treasury.  I was trying to reach you with regards to  a very important issue.  This is verbal notification in regards to enforcement action that has been started in your name.  My name again is Jack Shephard and my number is 909-440-9693...If for any reason you are busy to call, I suggest you have your retained attorney call, as delaying will result in a mess for you."

I asked my father who is an attorney to call them back for me and another woman answered the phone.  She asked why I was not the one calling and said she could only speak to me.  This is obviously a scam.  I called the number back and the same voice answered the phone but he said his name was something else (I couldn't understand him).  I asked him to give me the address where he is located.  He said he was at "290 North D Street, San Bernadino, CA 92401".  This is the address for an IRS location.  I tried to call that office at their real number to let them know about the scam.  I could not get a live person.

Hey all.  I too received this call and this website saved me from wasting more time with them.  Good thing is I found out the company providing their phone service and alerted them that their service was being used by a Scam Operator.  They wrote me back and said they close the number.  Brilliant. I couldn't believe it.  Magic Jack was the cloud provider and they took swift action to kill this business.

We have been getting these calls all week.  Finally I spoke with the man and told him that I was a witch (completely untrue) and that he and his household were cursed for generations.  He stopped calling.

I too received a very scarey voicemail from a woman named Rachel Smith with a strong Indian accent.  She said she was from Dept. of Legal affairs and I was getting a verbal warning about a law suit against me.  She said if I was not available to have my retainer attorney call them back. I figured was some kind of scam and googled it.  The number they called me from 949-891-8830. I called the number back was in Orange County CA and went to Officer Chris Walker's voicemail. I told him I knew this was a scam and that my boyfriend worked for the FBI and to never call me again.
