Got this call on a Sunday afternoon and one in the evening.  Did not let it ring very long.  Caller ID showed "Medallion" just like the other victum.  My guess is that it's in the Kansas City area and is a hoax or scam.

Comes up Medallion on the caller ID. I get the call about every 2-3 days. I won't answer. Don't know if it's a scam or a telemarketer (scammers too!).

I got the same call about 4:35 PM on 1-16-2008 and did not answer.  The caller ID read "Kansas Call"  The caller did not leave a message.  Probably a telemarl=keter.  Many companies use a phone system that calls 6 or more people at a time ........... the first person to answer gets the pleasure of the sales pitch.  The others get a dead phone.  Another site on the net shows the call origination is Stanley KS.  Thank God for caller ID  ..... and the Internet.

Have been getting this call twice a day every 2-3 days for the last 10 days. I refuse to answer as I have no idea who it is. I'm guessing telemarketer or survey as we've been getting a lot of those due to the election. I put it thru whitepages.com and it came back unavailable out of Kansas City. Another search engine showed based out of Stanley, Ks. If any one finds out about it, let us know! And yes there is never a message left!

Keep receiving calls from Medallion that is stated on our Caller ID.  We do not answer any of these calls.  They do not leave a message either.  Call several times during the day and night.

We received a call from this number last week and they left a message on our answering machine and whispered the word "BOMB".

I called the number, got a recording.  It is a service hired by charities and non-profits for fund raising.  So obviously, they are calling to solicit a donation for a charity.

"Came up as SONE.  Did not leave message so must not be important???"

You live in Nebraska, I'm assuming? If so it was a call for Special Olympics Nebraska.

I've "worked" for Medallion for 2 years. Just a few points:

Medallion IS a professional fundraiser, but only certain states require us by law to disclose this information. It is "legitimate", I suppose, but like any other paid fundraiser, little of your donation will be received by the charity being solicited. Typically 5% of your first contribution, 50% of any contribution after that.

Not saying you shouldn't contribute, just stating a few facts.

If you get a call it will likely be the first of many, DO NOT JUST HANG UP. Sometimes that will stop the calling, for instance if I call and you hang up on me you will be resulted as a turndown. But because I work with idiots, some of my coworkers will put your name in "Not In" instead of "Turndown" so my supervisor reassigns leads and we recall people who were not contacted 2-3 hours ago. Usually I'm fortunate enough to be the one to call you the second time and get the verbal beatdown that really needs to go to Joe Blow sitting across the aisle from me.

Tip: When this happens, and it will, try not to get rude. Not for my sake, you will not hurt my feelings and I'll do my job correctly regardless, but some people take it personally and again...will just put you in "Not In" or "Answering Machine" so we're back at square one. Instead, ask to be put on the Do Not Call List. As horrible as Medallion is they actually have a strict DNC procedure, the caller will tell you their manager needs to get on the line to take you off the list...don't hang up, this will take less than a minute and will actually be done so it's worth the 5 second wait. When the supervisor gets on the line tell them you want off the calling list for Special Olympics and for EVERY OTHER CHARITY that the company calls for (hundreds)--a global lockout.

If I call at a bad time, which will definately happen, try to keep in mind that I do not choose who I call, when I call them, or know how many times you've been called already. I work with many very dumb people and cannot help it.

I go to college and work at a place where I can do homework on the clock while making a very good wage. It's nothing personal, and I promise to quit as soon as I get my degree, but until then...I hope this helps.

By the way, I'm 99.999% certain Medallion doesn't use recorded messages. You probably got a call from someone who had worked there long enough to have the script memorized. Since we say the same thing over and over and over and over again, combined with the fact that our job is nothing but rejection and most offices have an unbelievably negative vibe (in other words the supervisors are overbearing pricks, though a select few actually run their offices as though they appreciate our efforts, keeping fun and positive atmosphere)...they were probably just very monotone.

Hi Medallion I don't know if you check this site or not but i need a question answered. I live in Kansas and i have asked over and over again to be taken "off" the call lists but they keep calling me. Can you tell me how to be taken off perminatly?

Got the call from "Medallion" a few minutes ago - yeh I listened to the speech, and I said "no"..she continued with her speech, trying to get me to say something other than no.. yeh, I got rude with her. I finally hung up.

In this particular time, not a lot of people have cash to give to charities. Even if it is legit, I don't, unless I have cash in hand to spare. I warn anyone from Medallion - do not call my number. I have a VERY loud air-horn, and I'm not afraid to use it.

    'nuff said.

even if you are on the do not call list they will still call you if you really dont want them to call you for a while tell them that you will give them a large sum of money usually over $200 will do then when they ask for a credit card tell them that you don't have one but you must request that you only be called once a year in the month of your choice you will only get about 2 or 3 calls and they will be very spaced out the best part is that you only commit to giving them money you never really have to give it to them

look it is simple to get the calls to stop. graves is right all you have to do is pledge an amount of money greater than $10 and tell us that you dont have a credit card... we send you something in the mail that you can throw away because its not legally binding heritage can take no legal action if you do not pay in people do it all of the time it is called a code 850 we really wont call that much if you just pledge but thats all it is and if you pledge and dont pay in then you really are hurting the company but not the organization that we are calling for the only reason that i am even letting you people know this is because they dont pay me enough

Wow, you people are amazingly intelligent. Medallion calls for non-profits, like Special Olympics. They call when you are on the DNC list because they are a telefundraiser, and therefore exempt from the main set of rules. And don't do what the jerks above suggested, just tell the people that you want to be on their company wide DNC list, that way you aren't screwing up any non profits budgeting. Good god, all you have to do is actually talk to the people when you answer.
