I received a call from this number and they said they were a sweepstakes lottery company based in Florida that handles a lot of different sweepstakes for different outfits.  Now 917 is a prefix for New York, not Florida, but let me continue.
They informed me that I had won $285,000.00 and all state federal and local taxes had already been taken care of because my original winnings were $422,000.00.  Now for the BUT part.
I had to give them a check for 1% to take care of the Refundable insurance fee.  That figure would amount toe $2,850.00.  I was on the phone with Mark Brown for approxmatley 15 minutes going thru the regular BS.  He then informed the refundable insurance fee had been reduced to $ 1,850.00 and asked if I could be able to pay that.
I told them sure I could and what was the catch?  Mr. Brown assured me that there was no "catch" and would I be available between 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm tomorrow.  I assured him that I would be here.
He then said he would have the peopld that would be delivering the chek call me back.

About 10 minutes later the phone rang and lo & behold it was the company that handles sweepstakes for different companies.  What a shock!!!
This guy (Michael Paul) said I would have to make sure I could pay the $1,850.25 today so his guys could deliver my $285,000.00 check tomorrow.  I told him I could just give his guys the check tomorrow when they got here.  He then informed me that his guys couldn't even leave the building without the check from me.  It seems like they should already should have been on their way from Florida if they wanted to get to northwest Montana by 1:00 pm tomorrow, wouldn't ya think??
Anyway I told Mr. Paul that he would probably have to give my money to someone else then.

Now I was trying to lead them on (a little) but it only took Mr. Paul about 3 seconds to not respond to my request to give my money to someone else and hang up.  Yep, I figured I wasted a good half hour of their time, but it was worth it!!
If something sounds too good to be true---it probably isn't true.
Oh, by the way my next phone call was to the sheriffs office and they informed they receive at least 2 calls per day involving some kind of scam.  Usually the Nigeria bank kind, but they have heard a lot of different ones by now.
Be safe people and absoultly don't give out any kind of information (bank #'s or credit card #'s) to these types of people.  It's kinda fun to see how far you can take them if you've time to mess with their head.

About 3 weeks ago now, a call came in on my husband's cell phone.  I don't know the number now, as it was hubby's phone and he clears all calls almost daily, I don't know why. He answered it, and the person on the other end asked for "Laura". "There is no Laura at this number," my husband informed them- They quickly changed the name to "LauRIE", which happens to be my first name. So hubby handed me the phone. On the other end, I heard what sounded like 2 brothers wrestling over the phone, "Gimme the phone, it's my turn-" Something to that effect, and some noise, like fumbling the phone. A young man gets on the line and says, "Good evening, Laurie. I am calling to inform you that you have been chosen to receive a ($250 or $500-can't remember which) gift card." I said, "Oh, I have, have I?' "Yes, ma'am, and let me explain to you the reason why you have won this gift card and how it came about..." I said, "Ok, I ain't got nothin' but time right now." He laughed a little and said, "You've been selected as a preferred customer by Visa AND Mastercard, because you've kept in such good standing with them." That was when I busted up laughing in his ear. "I am in such good standing with Visa and Mastercard, huh?" And I hung up the phone, still laughing. I am not in good standing with either company, for one thing... For 2, aren't Visa and Mastercard COMPETING companies??? LoL It gave me a good laugh at any rate.

    > if you are in a do not call list, you are not supposed to paid online directories , so your number wont be advertised for telemarketers to keep calling and bombard you with sales call...

I am also on the Do Not Call list, and yet am receiving calls from this number as well.  They leave a message in Spanish about winning something, but seem to have a difficult time speaking at all.

Does the Do Not Call registry count for nothing?  I'm starting to think even that is a sham....

I received a call today on my cellphone with a recording (made to sound as if computer-generated) saying it was an "official notification" from "American Express" that a "security upgrade" was necessary for my "Mastercard."  Obviously a scam, run by some not-very-bright people.  I hung up.  But, the sad thing is, some people will believe it and give them whatever they ask for.

Caller asked if I was still interested in a loan modification.  I asked how they were referred to me.  Caller said they work with a group of attorneys who do loan mods.  I asked which attorney referred me to confirm their validity.   Caller hung up.

This call was received on my cell phone. A computer voice said "we regret to tell you that your debit card has been temporarily suspended. If you want to reactivate it press 1". Of course I pressed 1, hoping to get a person to yell at. I didn't, only the computer voice asking for my 16 digit card number. Regarding Call Type below, this was a phishing call.  That should be an option.

This is not a real call back number, it is a spoofed number meaning it was sent to disguise the real callers number.  It is not a company, it is a scam. They are calling people at all hours of the day and night because they are in a time zone so far away, they have no concept of the local time they are calling.

They called Sunday night at 10:49 PM and did not leave a message.
I'm not surprised, who do they think will talk to them at 10:49 PM
This is a violation of the allowed hours of operation, good Class Action Suit, if they were a real company.
