This is a scam. A man with an Indian accent tells me that he knows the amount of the transaction I made on Amazon, and he needs to verify the shipping address. I immediately felt like it was a scam and asked if I could be transferred to his supervisor. He said that his line was for him only and that I could call him back. I argued that if he worked for Amazon, he could easily transfer me to his supervisor. I called Amazon, and they confirmed my orders were ok. They also confirmed that this is a scam.

Had a very expensive pc ordered on my amazon account,  a few hours later a lady from India called from that number and said she could cancel it for me.  I called amazon myself, they had me immediately change my password, and they are going to have thier fraud dept. call me.

Does Amazon outsource any of its customer services work to India? No one who contacted them seems to have asked but you have all placed orders . Maybe it was a genuine call, just a thought as you were not asked for any personal info.

Purchased something from Amazon. A lady calls within minutes of me placing my order, says she is an affiliate and that there is an office in India. Wants to know if I still want my order or if it should be canceled. She asks me questions and I don't answer any of them. I immediately called Amazon customer service, rep states they have no affiliates in India, that Amazon doesn't call customers not get info over the phone...

Exact situation here, my wife put an order and a couple hours later someone with an Indian accent asked to confirm her order by providing the shipping address, which she obviously refused to give. She called then Amazon customer service and they confirmed they never call to ask any info on orders, that this was a scam

Same thing, minutes after placing an Amazon order (>1000USD) the call came.
Strangely though, after pressing the person and not giving in to "confirm" my order, she told me all the information in my order anyway! So, how are they getting the items and costs for the order? That's all she had though, she wanted the address which I didn't give.
The question is, how is Amazon leaking this info? Is it internal?

I got a call from this number.  Didn't answer the call and they did not leave voicemail.  But unlike most other people here, I have not made a recent order on Amazon, and the last order I made was for a $4.00 video game controller.   Strange.

I got this call yesterday a man from what sounded like india as well, I did not answer he left a message said they needed to verify my address.  I had ordered a week prior so this prompted me to look at my account.  I had been hacked someone ordered a bunch of cameras and actually had it shipped to an address over an hour from me.  I had to file a police report and I contacted Amazon I got hacked somehow.  Just days before thought I had a bunch of spam emails coming by the thousands just gibberish adjjddijoj98r4uoioi that's what they looked like while I did not open them they still went to my junk mail.  I even wondered if they could have skimmed my account that way.

They called me acting like Amazon. They stated my order and asked if I was the person who had ordered. Then stated my email and asked if the email address was mine. I replied yes and then hung up. My question is if they are scammers how do they know what I placed an order on and my email?

Same deal here.  A man with an thick Indian accent asking about an order I placed yesterday on Amazon and referenced the last 2 digits of my credit card.  I informed him that I had not made any Amazon purchases recently and he informed me that he would cancel the order and I should contact my bank.  Definitely sounds like some sort of Scam, when they sucker those who aren't readily defensive and suspectful of such callers.

So, I also made an order from Amazon and had a call from this number a short time later but missed it.  Does this mean my account is vulnerable?  Also, I don't know if it's relevant, but this is the first time I've ever placed an order using a cell phone (iPhone) - I've never had calls subsequent to orders placed using my computer.

Phoned 3 times in a row claiming to be from Amazon. .Thick Indian accent. Left voicemail...for my husband. Stated he would phone again soon. He did. Gave phone to my husband. Man stated husband's last 4 digits of one of his credit cards and said he was from Amazon and someone had purchased a $300 pair of shoes.

A man with an Indian accent called me several hours after I opened an AWS account.
He asked if the account is for a person or a company.  Did not ask for account information.  This seemed all normal except for the fact that another person with Indian account called my friend minutes earlier asking for my phone number.

Reviewing all the cases listed here so far, some seem to be legit verification while others look suspicious.

Can Amazon comment on the legitimacy of this phone number at all?
