Received a call from this number (according to *69) just before 9 pm.  It rang three times and then stopped.  A reverse look-up showed it allegedly belongs to some Murphy in Ohio but I called the number and instantly got a message that said the number was no longer in service or disconnected so it would appear that the number may be spoofed -- which means a caller who is operating illegally.  My number is also on the Do-Not-Call list.  I will have my emergency whistle handy but I'll probably get hang-up calls like others.

How can someone call from a disconnected number?

Just got a call from this number. UNKNOWN NAME on the caller ID. Reverse lookup indicates a Murphy household somewhere inn the Dayton area. Didn't wait for the ans. machine to pick up - obviously no message left. (I always screen out of area calls unless I know the person calling.)

Just moments ago, someone called from this number.  As soon as it connected to my answering machine, it cut off.  I belong to the Do Not Call registry.  However, this could be a political fund raising group or charity.  They are exempt from this law.

I came home and saw a missed call from this number from 3:05pm today.  No message was left on my answering machine and anyone who knows me would have my cell.  Probably a machine dialing.

no political fund raiser here.. its a spoofer jerking your chain..  the way to get rid of it is to come down on the telephone company!.. they have the power to get the FCC to make it illegal to spoof numbers.. they also have the capability to stop spoofing!

Like all the others, I have gotten some calls from this number, 937 859-7731.  Never a voice mail is left and there is no one in Ohio that I know or have any dealings with,  Also, I do not have any debts, so I'd be surprised if a debt collector was calling me.  Although, I have received calls for the person who had my home phone number before I got it 20 months ago.  That person appears to have owed money to everyone.  
How do I stop all these calls?  I am on the Do Not Call List but this is not a solicitor, obviously.  Anyone have any ideas how I can get these calls to go away?

got a call from this number.  no one on the other end.  this sucks!!  wasting my time.  someone has got to put an end to all this spoofing calls or whatever you call it.

I just google earthed this Murphy's address and I'm going to be in OH soon  close to where this guy lives.  I'll be seeing you soon Mr. Murphy!  Heheheeeee

Like others have posted here, a hang up call.  Rang three times, did not leave a message.  We are on the DNC list.  To "Another recipient of calls," my sympathies.  We inherited a debtors number and were inundated with debt collections and spam calls for that person, up to 17 calls per day for MONTHS... even though it was easily verifiable that the man had been dead for over a year and a half.  We finally had to change our number.  Good luck to you.  By the way, debt collectors may be sued for their harrassment, as well as phone spammers.  The process requires careful logging and documentation of all calls.  Damages up to $1500 per call.  The time has come to hit these scumbuckets in the pocketbook.  If you choose to record the calls, be sure to tell them so that the recording is admissible in court.

Also rec'd a call at 10:30 a.m. today from 937-859-7731.  Left no voicemail.

Caller ID showed 937-859-7731, I answered but no one was their.  Called the number back and got a recording that it is disconnected.

Same as everyone else; same # and everything; called home phone around 3 p.m. EST in W.Va. on NOV. 26 ------- call back and of course DISCONNECTED....nice

I detest these kind of random calls and have received two in the past week from this number --  although the number on my phone indicated the origination as Miamisburg, OH a quick check of the number shows it as belonging to the Murphys in Dayton OH and Google Earth reveals the location as what appears to be an apartment building complex.   I am listed on the DNC Registry and should I continue to receive these calls, I will do what I can to report this situation or consider this as harassment and handle the anwering with a whistle that will hopefully stop the 'idiot' or computer from redialing me.  Good luck all and God bless.
