He contacted us early this morning (9 AM), claiming to be part of the VISA fraud Department and was reporting a suspicious $270 purchase made on E-Bay the night before. He apparently 'had' our address and asked us to confirm it. We responded that he now had the authorization from us to cancel any charges immediately since we have never made an on-line purchase of any sort. He then stated that if we were not the ones to have placed the order, to recite our credit card number to him so he may cancel the charge and remove any attached fees. I said I would contact my bank branch directly on the matter and he refused, stating he was in fact a VISA representative and that he would authorize the cancellation as soon as we provided the number. (IF he was a real agent, he would have been understanding and allowed us to go, but he kept trying to keep us on!) When I refused yet again, he then hung up. Guess he knew he was not going to get anywhere with us.- Caller: SCAM CALLER

- csc replies to EchoTheRogue| 1 replyI too received a call from the same number. The caller announced that he was Mike Watson from Visa and that there was a charge made on my Visa card and asked if I had authorized it. I said no. When he started to go on about how there was someone using my card without my authorization I then interrupted him and asked him where he was calling from. He said Visa. I then told him that his answer was not good enough. He then hung up.
- csc replies to cscBy the way Mike Watson had an East Indian accent. Go figure.
- Me Too| 2 repliesI got the same call - same accent from same number - same story about a charge on e-bay. He asked me for the card number and when I asked him why he didn't have the number already he said he did, but that the call was being recorded so I had to give the number. Foolishly, I gave him the number and the expiry date, but when he asked for the security code on the back I said I would call him back, so I could verify his identity. He then asked if I had a computer and said I could verify by going to www.support.me. He kept repeating that it was urgent for me to put a stop on the card right away. When I questioned the web address (I did not log into it) he hung up.
- Mr CanuckYes so have I. I had contacted Visa directly, gave them the phone number and reported as fraud. he said his name was James Williams. Was odd that he sounded like he was from India, and had a name like James Williams. This is Fraud, lets catch him... and give him what he deserves
- Caller: Visa
- Ms JI had a similar call at 7:30 am with same accent as above. He said he was calling from Visa and that there had been a transaction of $200. on my card. He was calling to verify if I had made the charge and if not had I given my card to a family member or friend. He said he was going to cancel the card immediately and send me a new one. I asked if he was from __________ Visa and of course he said Yes. ( I should have asked which bank he was calling from). He asked if I had the card in my possession. My suspicions were aroused and I told him I didn't want my card cancelled that I would call my bank to verify. He then told me that the $200. would be charged to my account if I hung up, at which time I passed the phone to my husband, who asked "what's the story with the Visa card", and the caller hung up. NO information was given to him from us regarding our card, thankfully.

- Trudy replies to EchoTheRogueI also had a call early this morning, but I do no answer calls if I can't identify the number. What a bunch of idiots though eh?
- John replies to EchoTheRogueSame call this morning. Couldn't tell me which Visa card had been compromised. Checked my balance on my BlackBerry as we're talking and told him there was no $200 charge to Visa. He hung up. He did know my mailing address in Nova Scotia though, which was disconcerting.
- kstNext your receive something like that just give him
all the infos he needs ... but the wrong one's...

- remaxsevern replies to EchoTheRogueFrom Severn Bridge Ontario. Guy said his name was Mike Watson, (with an accent so thick you could barely understand him) called my home number at 6:20 AM to report exactly the same as below only charge was for $320 on EBAY last night, I gave him the same response that I will contact my bank, thank you very much.
- CollingwoodGot a call at 6:45 am, same thing, suspicious large charge at 5 am on my Visa. He was very demanding and when I finally said that I was going to call Visa myself, he said "fine, take the extra time, I'll just allow this charge to go through" to which I replied, "go for it" Very intimidating man, if I wasn't suspicious by nature, I can see how someone would fall for it. He had my name, address, phone number and of course the first 4 digits of my Visa.

- NoSoPoliteCanadianEh?Got a call this morning from this number. Obviously not from VISA. I asked him if he could kindly take his VISA card and shove it firmly up his a@@.
Then I told him go have sex with himself and hung up.
Surprisingly he called back three times (I didn't answer) before giving up. Must have been a bit cranky. :-) - MMReceived a 12:45 am call from "Visa" about an unauthorized purchase. I asked him a number of questions like: where are you calling from? what's the temperature in Toronto tonight? what bank are you calling from? to which he gave all the wrong answers. So he got an earful of choice language. Despite the Texas area code, pretty certain the caller was in India.
This occurred immediately after my first on-line purchase. - Buyers beware -- Caller: Scammer
