Got a call on the house number from the US Treasury Dept of Legal Affairs”, with caller ID from California…sounds pretty legit, right?
Guy by the name of John Connors with a heavy eastern accent, he immediately gave me his Employee #11536 and then said that the IRS had issued a warrant because I owed extra taxes for 2009 & 2010. The total that I owed for non-payment of taxes, interest, penalties, etc. was $4265.95. I was told that it was a non-billable warrant and that the sheriff’s department would be sending someone to get me this afternoon. I asked if it was non-billable…how was I to pay it? “John” said he could not take a credit card payment but would transfer me to his supervisor. Robert Matthews, also with a heavy eastern accent, came on the phone and I asked specifically for the physical location and said I was tired of this scam. The phone went dead.
I contacted the Sheriff’s office, told them it was a non-emergency fraud report. Officer arrived and stated that he could take the information but that since they were most likely outside the US the FBI would be in charge and they were busy with other more pressing things…quite understandable. He thought that possible the scammers were calling to fund the latest ISIS crusade.
ust sending this information on to hopefully stop any money going their way. The officer said there was a lady last year that gave phone scammers around $100K….

I got the same thing today, but they left voicemail my machine to call him regarding the same taxes and penalties I owed them.
