I got this same phone number in an email (951-892-7140). He says that he is deaf and has a text writing machine that translates voice to text.  We ran into him through an ad we had placed on Craig's List. Everything mostly legitamate and he was planning to by the item we had listed but then suddenly he told us that instead of a $500 cashier's check, he  was sending a $3,000 cashier check and could we return the rest after we cashed it. Now we are wondering if this is all a scam. We are not sure what to do but at the moment, there is nothing we can do but see if the check arrives.

this is a scam. i posted an item on craigslist. he sent the same message. i don't think a deaf guy would want to buy parts for a sports car. especially something custom. ITS A SCAM.

I listed an item on craigslist and also got a response from someone called Kelly Smart who wanted to pay with a certified bank check, just recently moved to the San Diego area from Alabama.  This person also mentioned this number and it would come thru as a email as it is for hearing impaired.

    sounds like a scam!

    everyone should read this
gather 'round!  i just rec'd a reply with this number via a post on craigslist, though i did NOT get a "warm fuzzy" feeling.  it brought me here, and hence, i have this:  i gave multiple options in my first reply, two of which would have been optimal for anyone hearing-impaired, though neither was recognized.  though i have NOT dug around, i do KNOW there are NUMEROUS scan; therefore, i wager my LIFE that we should all stay away!

Here is my response from the infamous Kelly- Hi,how was your day?I want you to understand that the deal is on and
my secretary as posted the payment promptly, but there was a little
problem which i guess we can handle with care while i contacted her to
confirm if the payment as been mail out i was made to understand that
its actually as been sent and but instead of the actually amount for
the item, she made out the check for $2500 she claim that was what i
requested  but she didn't get that straight. The payment was already
posted before i was inform about this but i wouldn't want this to
delay the sale as i have rectify this with my Bank and all you  do
once you have the payment is to take it to you Bank and have it cashed
and  you will then deduct the money for you good plus a 100 dollars
for all the trouble i have put you thought during the course of this
transaction as well as for your running around. The excess fund on the
payment will then be wired to my mover  via western union that same
days so that he can come for pick up as i already plan on using the
excess on the payment to offset the cost of the various shipments he
as undertaken on my behalf.Do let me know if i can trust you to have
the excess sent to my mover thank you, best Regards.

This is Craigslist fraud and I am working with FBI and FTC on it right now as they tried to defraud the wrong person, I.E. me, so we should have them stopped soon. It is not 1 person pulling this fraud, it is several. Oh and BTW, they are based in Saudi Arabia, so it has become an international investigation which unfortunately is pretty low on our international recourse team's list of things to investigate, but I am doing what I can.

A similar scam was posted on roommates.com.  My roommate responded, received the cashier checks from an out of the country potential roommate which were "mistakenly" sent three times instead of once-each for $3000.  She was asked to send the difference back.  My roommate's bank was going to accept the checks but suggested she check them out at the post office first (they were US post office cashiers checks).  Turns out they were totally fake.  She would've deposited the checks, sent back a real cashier's check for the difference, and been out a couple of thousand $.  Total SCAM!

I just googled the number and here I am. I had the same email via posting furniture on Craig's list. I was scammed about 5 months ago on a secret shopper job through careerbuilder. They send you a check you deposit it. It will clear and you are suposed to send remainder of the over payment back to them. Then about 4 days later the bank called and it was a bogus check. I had a feeling it was but i deposited it anyways. Good thing I was smart enough to wait before withdrawing fake funds. would of been out $3,200

I put an ad on Craigslist and I got an email from "wendy" saying that she wanted to buy my laptop for $5,000 (even though i was asking $300) and she wanted me to send a cashiers check back to her for the change?  Sound familiar anyone? She just happened to leave this same number to call her back on... Sound like a Fraud and A scam?.. I think so! So people be careful out there..

I replied to this saying that my engine advertised on Craig's list was a "come here and cash on pick-up".
    Done with this deal, right?

No, my outgoing e-mails are now hung up, except for some replies to inquiry off of company websites.

I wish the phone company could place fraud charges on the person that has this number, because they are committing communications fraud by telephone number  in order to defraud people and scamming them into pilfering their funds... anybody with connections to the communications industry?
