I just activated my phone on 7/12 (7 pm or so).  On 7/13 at 8:03 this number shows up as a missed call. No voice message either. I am not calling them back.  I have no idea who they are or who they want.

They are a scummy collection agency that resorts to threats and foul language when they can't get ahold of who they are looking for.  They have been calling my number since July 2007 looking for someone I do not know.  My number is new and I explained that to them and they still call.  I had to get the police involved because one of their collectors threatened me physically.

These morons have an automated message piece of crap which continues to say call them over and over again. The problem is that the person they are looking for at this business has not worked here in months. They will not remove our number even though we tell them to.

CPC needs to read up on the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act and know that they are not allowed to call over and over again when told a person does not work at the place of business. They need a class action lawsuit against them.

Like the rest of you either a male calls or it is an automated calling system.  They keep calling  my number and I told them I have no business with them.  I feel they are very persistent and frequently call during meal times.  It is very annoying.

I'm a nurse who works third shift and I've been awakened 17 times by this company which is looking for a friend of my youngest son. My son's friend doesn't live with us and I don't know for sure where he's living since his parents divorced. (He is of legal age (18) and probably liable for the debt. These people are certainly persistent. They say that my  number is the only contact they have and the only means they have to reach him. I said they STILL don't know how to get hold of him, they just know how to get hold of ME, and I'm trying to sleep.

I have received calls from this number for over a month asking for information
on a female with whom the only thing we have in common is a last name. It would appear that they picked a likely name out of the phone book and started calling. I called and asked them to stop and they continue with at least two call a day.

They always call when I'm practicing karate. It makes me want to sempuku.

I got my first call from CFC, over a debt from 2000.  Statue of limitations in my state is 6 years. There isn't any way I was going pay for something that I wasn't even sure I owed anymore.  Especially when I get my credit monitred monthly and I didn't show what they were talking about.  I have educated my self on credit laws and know what creditors can and can't do.  I verbally told them I didn't owe the money and told them not to call me back. I knew they wouldn't listen.  Even though they are REQUIRED by law to stop calling you.  So I waited until they called me again and I asked for their address.  They are LEGALLY obligated to give you this information.  But the man on the phone got rude and told me he didn't have to give me anything.  He got an attitude with me telling me I was being rude, even though I wasn't even speaking. I told him to transfer me to a supervisor and the supervisor refused to give me information until i gave him information (which i am not LEGALLY obligated to do).  I of course refused and he hung up (again they can't do this).  I had to call back three more times asking for the address.  In order to finally get it I proceded to tell the guy i was recording the phone conversation and that it is showing that he is refusing to give me his company's information. He got quiet and then hung up.  Finally after calling for a fourth time they told me the information with no hassle.
My advice to you.  NEVER pay a collection agency, if you can handle it with the orignal debtor.  if the original debtor refuses payment you can state that on your credit report, dispute it, and have it taken off.  
Another thing is know the statue of limitations of your state.  If its passed NEVER acknowledge the debt.  Chances are the debt has devalued to pennies on the doller and what they say you owe ISN'T what you owe regardless.  If you paid them 5 dollers it is still hundereds of percentages higher then they bought your debt for. And worse it will reset the statue of limitations on the debt.  Don't let them rip you off.
Lastly, due to the credit crises these companies are HURTING. So they are buying and trying anything they can to get money.  They have bundled your debt with MILLIONS of others and sold it.  Some of the debt isn't real because there is no longer a paper trail to prove if it isn't or is.  You could have paid off the old debt, it could have been charged off on backruptcy, you could have paid down the debt, and guess what they or you wouldn't know.  Don't risk paying TWICE for something you may not even owe.  Don't let these people fool you into thinking you are a dead beat that refuses to pay his bills. you have other piorities FEEDING your family, PAYING your rent, etc.  They are the ones CHEATING you by adding on penetlies and fees (things you are not REQUIRED by law to pay) inflating your debt just to take more money from you.  I am not advocating not paying your old debts, i'm just advising to be realistic. Don't pay on an old bill that can't be verified.  Your credit score will probably NOT go up if you pay it and in 7 years it'll fall off. If they call you, FIRE OFF A CEASE AND DESIST LETTER, know your laws, and take care!

I got a call from 952-944-1620 at 10:09am on 02/06/09 and asked to speak to Rob Beret. Well I do not know this person and told then so. But they would not believe me and told me I was a lair! I ask them to stop calling me and hung up. Well I just got a call again 10:12am on 02/07/09 and was asked to pay a bill I know NOTHING about. Told them Rob does not life here nor do I know him. I was told if I didn't pay the bill I would be DEALT with in a very harsh manner. I was threatened and was told my pay check would be took. I don't care if they take this Rob guys check but do care that they threatened me. What can I do about this harassment?

they called me and couldn't tell what their name was on the voice mail they left me so.... i called them back and i asked who it was and they said give me Ur number. i said. why u should know it u guys called me to my! cell phone and i don't recall this number from anybody i know and i don't give it out to any body i don't know. the guy answered me with this.." well if your so smart figure it out" and them hung up on me. that really pissed me off that's why I'm writing this to all the people that have had calls like this.

I've been receiving calls nearly every week from this number for the past 3 months. They are looking for some dude named Jonathan P. They either hang up on me or berate me when I ask exactly what they want. I don't even know who Jonathan P. is yet they continue to harass me. How do you get them to stop?

i have received numerous calls looking for my ex husband who I have been divorced from for 20 years.  He has never lived at my adress or had this phone number.  I have told them to stop calling here and still they continue.  I have a perfect credit history and I am so annoyed it isn't funny.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get them to stop?

Some dumbass woman called me and told me I should pay them $3200or be sued. I said sue me and that was almost 8 months ago.  She disappeared for awhile and now she is back calling me again. You see the problem is that I don't owe them any money. When my husband died, I had to file bankruptcy back in 2006 and at the time of the bankruptcy they were dunning me for a $700 bill. Oh yes, I should of paid my debts but my husband got cancer and died painfully and slowly, which we never planned on. So I have had enough strife and they need to leave me alone. RIP portfolio because you will never see a dime from me

To Kerrie, You must send them a Cease & Desist Letter and send it certified and tell them to stop calling you, if they don't get a consumer attorney or go to Buddhibbs.com website and they will help you. You can acutually sue them for not complying. The law says they must stop, so hold them to the law. This is true all you have to do is research and as Gina in the above post said, educate yourself. If you don't know your laws, then companies and bottomfeeders will use many scare tactics to get you to pay money  you don't even owe.  For your sake, you had better start reading and learning the law. Ask for help, its out there.  I was called 7 times a week around dinnertime by these clowns and I told them to stop, they threatened to sue me but sent me phony documentation, when it all came down to it, they owed me money for harassment.  They will continue to call and try to wear you down, its just a tactic, they have low level paying jobs and are thieves and liars and drug addicts so you have to get rough with them.  Sass em back!

I am sick of the [***] at Central Portfolio. My brother gave me his cellphone and his roomate had given cp his number and they have called me for over a year and I tell them that I am Jill not Jack and this is no longer his reference number.  They scream at me and tell me to stop playing games. One guy even threatened to catch a plane and come whip my ass.

I guess he thought that was going to scare me. I may be female but I'm not an ignorant female. I called the cops and reported his threats. My brother and his friends are praying this guy will come to the Bronx.

Got a call today from a really rude collection lady.
Told her that the account was closed & written off(according to credit report will be removed)
Also told her to stop calling me.
She would not give me her name & threatened to continue to call unless I give her my credit card info!
So I hung up on her!
