Report a phone call from 954-492-1645 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- JLW| 2 repliesI have been getting multiple calls from this number. Today I picked up and the girl was fund-raising for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. She claimed we had made a pledge yesterday (which we had not). I asked to be place on the do not call list. We'll see.
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- dwThis number has called my home multiple times this week. I have not answered the call. However, I am on the Do Not Call registry. Apparently, companies are not reviewing this list.
- gthomsonI received a call on a blocked number. The caller said she was from the multiple sclerosis foundation. She asked for a pledge. I said yes. She confirmed my information and said someone would get back to me. The 954 492 1645 number called me about 7 minuets later confirming my pledge and said they will send out a plege card. I tryed a reverse lookup on the number and could not confirm it was from the multiple sclerosis foundation. I did look up the charity organization and they have a low rating meaning they pay high administrative costs to collect money. They pay themselves first and what's left over goes to the charity. I'm on a no call list. Apparently the initial caller uses a blocked number to call people on the no call list. If they get a "hit" they forward the call to the 954 492 1645 and a pledge card is sent out.

- Austin replies to JLW954-492-1645 - This number is being used for telemarketing and fund raising by the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation National Headquarters in Southeast Florida. The fact that this organization is using unscrupulous telemarketing methods, and has no regard for the fact that the recipients of their calls are on the “Do-Not-Call” list, has been well documented by the frustrated call recipients on blogs throughout the internet; a simple Google search of this number will reveal the number of frustrated households who have been harassed by this organization over-and-over again. The fact that this organization would use this type of telemarketing scam leads me to believe that it is just another “not-for-profit-front” organization that lives in a tax-free environment solely for the benefit of its executives….. I would not be at all surprised if this was just another front that collects money on the pretext of being a charity, but after the “administrative expenses” necessary to provide comfortable offices, great benefits and high salaries to their “staff”, only passes a very small fraction of donations collected through to actual researchers or programs to assist people with this disease. Do NOT give these people any of your hard-earned money. It also would appear that the people this organization has hired to make these harassing calls have found a way to dupe their employer….. It seems that this organization must be paying these “telemarketers” some sort of bonus for making a quota of “completed calls”, because they keep calling and calling the same number once they find a number where someone will actually pick up the phone, or a voice mail will answer, in order to inflate their “successful contact” list. Many times after the initial contact, they don’t even bother staying on the phone or saying anything when the phone is answered…they just hang up, presumably because the call-tracking computer has already logged a “successful contact”.
Here is one of the adds this organization posted on the internet in order to find people to conduct this harassment:

- Lina| 1 replyIn case none of you were aware, the National Do Not Call Registry does not apply to charities. They have a legal right to call any number during the time frames of 8am-9pm. The best way to get them to leave you alone is to tell them to place you on their internal DNC list. If you simply hang up the phone, they will keep your number on rotation and you will keep getting periodic calls until you tell them otherwise.
- Maria Lyn replies to LinaThat Is absolutely correct !!!!
- AllenJust to inform you what is happening. I use to own a legitimate Telemarketing office. What is happening here is probably largely unknown by the MS Society. See ALL charities use telemarketing in one form or another. Because of this there are two things happening. First what we all know about SCAMMERS. posing as the Society and getting paid a one time fee for the scam off your credit card... or worse yet stealing your info. Secondly, and most people do not know this, but most big companies like this partner out or have an affiliate program with a existing Telemarketing company. THAT is what is happening here. The Telemarketing company lands a contract with the MC Society and promises to use set tactics to raise money. YES for a percentage of the weekly amount I would guess. Now this leads to a serious problem. It is very hard for the Society to really know how they are operating. For two reasons: 1.) They know nothing of Telemarketing and the laws involved which are hefty. and 2.) They cannot tell what they are doing because the complaints could be the SCAMMERS who are also operating. So a company, non profit or not, probably has something like twenty to one hundred contracts with Telemarketing companies throughout the country. Which is just and true and which one is not? Very hard to tell when scammers AND unscrupulous Telemarketing companies take advantage.

- 12dYou are right. Because it is so hard to tell one from the other many, many phone owners just tar them all with the same brush and either ignore or block such calls.
