charged my credit card without my permission and I called just now at 11:46pm and no answer.
I am calling my bank.

I also got a charge from this phone number on my credit card. I plan to call and dispute the charge when they open. There was no answer when it rang, and the charge on my card said "government services"

They called me as well and I am trying to get in contact with them but I am also calling my bank.

I too got a charge of $68.30 showing as government payments on my checking account. I called the number and a lady answered and explained that they process credit card and debit card payments made to various government offices. Sure enough, I had renewed a vehicle registration yesterday and that is how the charge appeared on my bank statement. Hope this helps.

Don't bother calling the number, call your bank and close the card.

The samething happened to me.  They charged $15.00 to my Debit Card Account.  The charge appeared as Government Payments 956-682-3466.  My bank said it looked suspicious because "they", whoever "they" are, are registered as an online computer software business.

Just one of many scammers in this wonderful world.

I saw this number on my checking account. When I called the husband it took him a minute, but the charge itself made him remember that he had just paid the car registration at the county. It's the same day, same payment. They are a clearing house.

I saw the charge and it looked suspect.  The number 956 number is a South Texas number but I had not been to South Texas in a few months. Then I realized I paid a speeding ticket and this is what should up on my statement.  The ticket I got was up in northern part of Texas but I guess that is were they process the funds. I hope that helps.

This wasn't a call i received but a name and number charged to my credit card.  

I paid my property taxes inTexas for Travis County and the charges showed up as GOVERNMENT PAYMENTS 956-682-3466 TX......you should be able to call any of the tax assessor collector in the county you live in and they should have any payments you have made.

showed up as suspicious on my credit card & thought it was a scammer, but it's not...i paid my water bill to the city i just moved to and forgot these are the folks who do the processing...they're legit

I got a speeding ticket and the dollar amount matches exactly to what I paid to "the government" (it makes sense)...So, it's not a scam.

Got a charge for $14.  The bank couldn't tell me what it was, just gave me a phone number.  It said "Government Payments" on my bank statement.  Called the number, said something like Haymer Enterprises.  Of course, no one was available.  I'm disputing the charge with my bank.
CHECK YOUR BANK STATEMENTS!!!  This is obviously a scam!  Most people aren't savvy enough to check their statements, and they never know they've been charged.  So pathetic!  CHECK YOUR STATEMENTS REGULARLY!!

Okay, after reading these responses, I'm going to look into it some more since people had similar responses.  Still not sure what it is, or why I was never informed.  How the heck did they get my credit card info?!

i had a debit on my bank a/c as well. in my case at least, it is legitimate. it represents a payment, including a $3.00 service fee, for proprerty taxes in the harlingen, tx area.

This is a legitimate charge.  I paid for a traffic ticket to the county office and my bill came through as this number, GOVERNMENT PAYMENTS 956-682-3466 TX

I had paid my car registration renewal with my express 64.38, and this is how it is displayed on my billed "Govt Pays" 956-682-3466. It is a legal charge.
