A man with an Indian accent called to tell me there have been an extraordinary number of error messages sent from my computer to Microsoft, and that my computer is about to crash. He wanted me to turn my computer immediately and walk me through steps. I told him I don't have access to my computer right now, but go ahead and tell me the steps and I'll check it out later. He refused to tell me how to do it, called me a skeptic, and hung up.

    Vishing Scam replies to Kdee
Anyone looking at this post should google "vishing".  Basically, Microsoft is too busy making money to care about "errors"... what the person is trying to do is compromise your computer to steal your personal information or identity.

PS - If you get an email from a Nigerian Prince don't believe that either ;).

I have been receiving calls from this number for a couple of months now, sometimes more than once a day. It's always the same man with an Indian accent saying I need to immediately go to my computer so he can walk me through the steps to keep it from crashing. Asking not to be called, or to be put onto a no call list will do no good. Now when he calls I jump right in and say, "oh, no worries, I don't own a PC, laptop, tablet, or smartphone", at which point he hangs up on me. Although we end every conversation with him hanging up on me, he continues to call back again and again.

The number 989-366-0199 is a scam - HANG UP ON THEM!

It's a scam ...... they want you to think that there's something wrong with your computer, saying that they are Microsoft and once you allow them access to you computer they 'will' compromise the machine and render it useless unless you pay them and if someone is convinced enough to pay them; even after payment has been made  your computer will need to be reformatted and you will lose all of your software, documents, music, pictures and it will need to be restored to factory settings.

Moral of the story:  NEVER!  Let anyone remotely take over your computer, if you do ...... you almost deserve to let a hacker steal from you ..... and if you have a long lost rich relative in Nigeria that has several millions of dollars that someone wants your bank account to send it to, well ....... you don't have a rich relative in Nigeria . . . . . Capiche'?

An Indian guy named Bryan?  I love when they say that, but yes, it''s a scam, don't be fooled.  They have called me several times and there are few tricks to not receive these calls anymore, here's what I did.

When Bryan called me and told me my computer was about to crash, I said gee Bryan, thank you so much for calling, boy oh boy, Microsoft is really on their game, so hang on; I'm walking over to my computer now.  I'm a High School football coach and took my field whistle and said, "Bryan, are you there?  He said yes I'm still here, and I said I can't hear you too well and he got the phone off his shoulder and snugged next to his ear and I let him have it!  I hope that Bryan has good health insurance, because I heard his phone drop on the table with screaming in pain, I hope your eardrum exploded! Oh and hey Bryan, GFY!

Got the man with the heavy India accent telling me that I would be hacked. I told him I don't care and that he had no idea what system I was using. He was very insistant and actually became mildly abusive. "You are not listening to me! Your computer will be hacked and you will lose everything!"
He said that I was using windows and that he could check for weaknesses. All I had to do was let him have access so he could....
Thats when I started laughing at him. I told him to have a blessed day and take it easy. I also told him to remove my number from their list. He said that he couldn't do that.
Next time I will just begin reading to him from the New Testament about the road to salvation.
And tell him about the wonderful roast beef I'm eating as we talk.

Microsoft themselves disagree with you.    See their warning at http://www.microsoft.com/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx     THEY ARE SCAMMERS and YOU are possibly part of the SCAM.

this phone number called 989-366=0199 looked it up and it belonged to a family - tried to call it and it said that the number was out of service or disconnected. The caller basically said the same thing but this guy said he didn't speak english and want me to help him speak it. This is not the first call I've received exactly like this - have had at least 5 over th last 7 months all different numbers.

I am receiving calls from this number 2 or 3 times a day.  They hang up as soon as I answer.

I have now programmed this in my phone as "do not answer"  and therefore disconnect the caller as soon as I see it pop up on the caller ID
