international msg re purchase of vehicle from trading post - believe it to be similar to 447624812963 and comments there - appears to be a scam

yeah just got a text from that number too. name was gray.

previously received one from "stacey" with the email stacey.m@themaughans.net.
new email from the latest text is engr.gray@graycooper.com

when you enter the domain graycooper.com it brings up that google thingy which happened for themaughans.net also.

also, when you look up the owner of both the domains, they are both listed through whois privacy protection.
obviously they want their details to be kept secret.

if anyone wants to play it out, set up a separate bank account so they dont get access to all your money.

I just received the following text from this number:

'Im interested in a quick pchs of d car u adv on TradingPost. Pls get bck to me thru my personal email (engr.gray@graycooper.com) to confirm availability. Gray'

Obviously someone from the UK isnt interested in buying a car worth $5000 from Australia..

Yep, exact same message from gray as above...... wish I could work out how to scam the mongrel back.

exact same scenario as 'happy' -- got an SMS firstly from +44-7624-812963 "stacey.m@themaughans.net". I emailed a response and the reply -- "'I wanna ship it to the UK & pay by PayPal" -- came from IP address 41.206.15.1 which identifies as LAGOS, NIGERIA. A few days later I got another SMS from 44-7624-812960 engr.gray@graycooper.com "Gray" -- presumably the SAME bunch of bad-grammar low-brow criminals in Lagos.

I replied by email, is there any risk there (used my paypal email)

All I want to do is sell my car!!- And every enquiry Iv had through advertising on internet (on 2 different websites) has been a scam. Seriously, what is this world coming to.?!! ..and its costing me $ to put up with this rubbish...

I too had the same SMS from Gray. Stop stuffing us around with your shonky attempts. Time-wasting con-artists. Beginning to think I needn't have bothered advertising vehicle on the internet.

My decision to try and get one from Australia is basically because the car makes conforms with the United Kingdom's as they are also right hand drives.


I am actually trying to get this car for my first son who will be adding a year to his age in a months time as he has always been a fan of this car.  So I think its worth paying whatever the shipping charges will be just to put a laughter on his face.


As to the price, the $15500 seems to be very reasonable. To seal this transaction in earnest, I will be very glad to make the payment asap through my PayPal account as I am currently offshore and I won't definitely be able to make it to my bank to make bank wires across to you.


As to shipping, you need not worry yourself about how the car will get to me here in the United Kingdom as I will contact a shipping company here who will handle that.


Do get back to me asap with your PayPal Email address and Full name so that I can remit the payment asap.

I thought it was amusing when it said there was a complicaton to do with the shipping company not accepting pay pal, yet he said previously he had bought the same car from overseas...didnt think that one thru very well!

The fact that this gray cooper douch bag is the only bite ive had on my car since putting the add on the trading post just digs the knife a little deeper!  Starting to think the old 'park it outside ur house with a big sign on it' might just be the way to go.....

This site has been much help i thought i was about to get scammed, i have recieved an sms from this number about a boat i am selling. i was about to proceed when i got the exact same email with the same content from someone else.

His message reads
HI mate, Good day to you i am interested in your boat placed on the tradingpost, i will like to know if ou still have it available for sale please get back to me waynerichards@gmail.com

besides the spelling and grammer he made, his email was filled with a story about his sons birthday coming up and he wanted my boat to give to him as it was his only wish!

Australians should report fraudulent buyers to the ACCC at the Scam Watch website or by calling 1300-302502.

IT IS A SCAM -- DO NOT RESPOND TO THESE PEOPLE.

This scam involves an "offshore" buyer claiming to want to buy your car & ship it but "unfortunately" they are "offshore" and "can't get to a bank" thus they insist on using PayPal. They then send you a FAKE PAYPAL EMAIL for MORE money than you are asking (no money whatsoever is actually sent) -- they then want you to pay these so-called additional funds to their "shipping company" via Western Union. And if you pay this into the Western Union account then you are kissing your money goodbye...

The scammers operate out of Nigeria. They use a bunch of "+44" mobile numbers that appear to be in the UK, numbers they can SMS message from using the web (via Skype and the like) no matter where in the world they or you happen to be. They try to fake being from the UK but actually their IP address (the embedded code hidden in the email's 'header') reveals that they are located in Nigeria - you can easily verify an IP address' location via the web at an IP locator site such geobytes.com

Hey thanks everyone!  I just got the gray cooper sms and thought i better check  it out before i emailed.  So glad I did!  What is wrong with people?  Afraid of making an honest buck?

I am glad to find this here, because I also got at first a sms from this +447624812960 no and he has send me later the email below.
I thought it was all a bit strange so I did a Google check.
Unbelievable what people do to scam others!!! I hope they get these people and lock them up!!!

Thanks for getting back to me. I am indeed very sorry for the late coming of my response. I have been a little bit busy at work.
Unfortunately, I lost the direct link to the advert on tradingpost as a result of a mandatory system update which required my computer to be automatically restarted. I will be very grateful if you could send me the direct link for the advert again or possibly send me the tradingpost's AdNumber as I will like to view the advert all over again and also have the same for record purposes.
Besides I will like to know if the car has had any mechanical faults or accidents in the past. I have actually tried to get the car earlier from here but its a shame that most of the ones I got in the past have got one huge mechanical fault or the other, some tagged at exorbitant prices while the rest have had major accidents in the past.
Do as well advise on the bottom price that you will consider to sell the car as I will like to seal this transaction in a couple of days.
However, due to the nature of my work, I will not be able to travel out of the United kingdom to come for the inspection. I will however be needing your suburb, state and postal code so that I can forward it to my shipping agent here in the United Kingdom who will be coming over there for the inspection and shipping of the car.
A timely response will be highly appreciated.
