called to confirm am amazon order

Amazon called me from this number to validate my order.

I had a call from Amazon asking if I had purchased a Gift Certificate.
I said No.
They told me there had been an attempt to purchase one using my Credit Card.
They gave the correct last four digits of my card and advised me to call my bank and stop the card.
The call ended.

Using the internet, I checked my accounts - no sign of activity.
I called my bank and deliberately failed one of the security check questions. Then got it right.
The bank could see no sign of activity on my card in the last 24 hours. I agreed NOT to cancel my card.

My concern was that the original call from "Amazon" was bogus. There is a scam that involves them calling you and then not hanging up at the end. You call your bank, in a panic, and give out all your security check info to the scammer who then tells you that your card has been cancelled. But it hasn't.
And with your details they can then rip you off big time while you wait for your new card in 5 working days...

That was the point of deliberately giving the wrong date of birth during security sign-in, to see if it was detected.
And I guess a mobile phone disconnects from both ends of a call, unlike a landline...

Of course, I could be back on here in a couple of day confessing that I have been massively ripped off...

Had a bogus call from Amazon trying to verify a large order which had not been placed.

Called to confirm an amazon order. Had correct details and also the email I used which has no connection to my debit card number so I'm assuming that people who have been scammed only actually knew of the purchases that were going to happen with their card because this number called to confirm their order...

What is the reason for calling?
