Just another number (fake via Skype or VOIP) for the computer virus scammers.  They try to get you to give them remote access to your computer.  If they get it they will install spyware/malware to steal your info, like bank details, passwords etc.  There was a programme on UK tv last November which explained the scam.  The Director of Security for Microsoft said, on the programme, that neither Microsoft nor its partners, would ever 'phone you.  It would be a breach of their privacy rules. No-one who 'phones you knows anything about your computer, they rely on scare tactics and lack of computer knowledge.  Everything they tell you is lies.  You would not give your personal info to a stranger in the street, so do not give access to your computer to a stranger on the 'phone.

2nd time I have been called this week (12 & 14 June 2012) from a country with access code 0016 or 0011, couldn't answer it though. If you pick up the phone, will they have access to your computer, as I have digital phone, computer and TV all in 1?

Someone called me with the same number a couple of minutes ago and also askes me about Microsoft.
I told him to go [***] him self and got very mad, he immediately knew that is wasn't interested;).
I knew Microsoft didn't call people for this, so that's why i responded that way!

Just now I was called from this same number. Someone with an indian accent said he was a Microsoft engineer, Microsoft was receiving alarming messages from my PC indicating that my firewall did not work well and malware had been installed. He was to help me remove the threat and resolve the firewall issue. He proved me to be from Microsoft showing that he knew the CLSID code of my computer, which only Microsoft could know. He made me check this typing 'assoc' in command mode and read the last but one line starting with 'ZFSendTo Target'. Microsoft also had my phone number. He sounded like a serious man. He made me look into my PC logbook to demonstrate the problem (typing 'eventvwr' in command mode). Indeed the application page showed numerous warnings and errors over the last 24 hours. He was well prepared and knew that the word application was written "toepassing" in Dutch. I went along and he passed me to his supervisor. This man wanted to takeover my computer to help me resolve the urgent problem. I refused. When I asked him to mail me from a microsoft.com email address to show his credentials, he was insulted. At that point I said goodbye.

What happened to me was much like this: https://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/0280062085. Both  men were quite convincing, helpful and and patient. People having less technological background and more confidence in others may well accept "help" from these people. I got suspicious for several reasons: 1. Microsoft cannot have my phone number. 2. I knew the identity of my PC was not found in this way. 3. Their phone number did not show the American country code. And of course, NEVER allow unknown people to overtake your PC or install software. Don't even go to the website they recommend.

Was just called from a woman who spoke rather bad English and claimed that there was a problem with my computer. I asked for her supervisor who then said he was calling from Microsoft in Los Angeles and that there was a virus which caused serious damage.... I was persistent to find out how they got my phone number since I´m not listed, and he eventually hung up on me. A rather poor and obvious attempt to get information, I´d say.

The best possible advice to stop all calls of this nature is to visit this web site

    www.truecall.co.uk

I purchased one when I was getting more than 25 calls per day.
Since I installed it I never ever get a scam call.

There is a cheaper one but you have to receive the call first to block it, by this time you have picked the phone up so it is too late.

Got a call from this number, a man claiming to be from a company called PCFixed and telling me his company were licensed by Microsoft and Apple to deal with computer virus problems.

I've been called many times by this and other company names - about once a week for the last two years or so. They used to introduce themselves as Microsoft but now they give a different company name. Same scam, different name

I just got called from this number and a man with an Indian accent said there was a problem with my Microsoft and it was sending them warning messages or something. It was complete rubbish as Microsoft would never ring you for something like this and they don't know my phone number

I just got one of these, but when I told him I knew what he was up to, he told me he was going to send someone round and take away my computer.  Disturbingly he had my address, he phoned back four times getting more threatening each time, describing my house and cars parked within the area (a good guess?) telling me he was going to call the police and they would take away my computer! Finally someone was going to come round within half an hour!  I called the Police myself, don't suppose there is much they can do but at least they listened.
