Thanks for all your postings. I was called yesterday at around 5pm and again this evening at 8.15pm. I did not recognise the number and googled it like everyone else.

I will not bother with Orange and yes I am an orange customer. I have labelled the number on my phone as "Scam Czech Number" and will ignore it but am curious as too how long they persist for? Will they keep trying for a few weeks and stop?

I've been getting calls from this number for about a month on and off.  Too many to count.
Have never answered as I didn't recognise it.
Its now saved on my contacts as 'nuisance czech caller' so I don't even have to think about it.

I’ve had a weird experience with these guys.

Both my Wife and I have Orange phones with consecutive numbers. We both started receiving daily phone calls from this number about a month ago. It only ever range once or twice and I was never able to answer it in time. I guessed that it was a scam trying to get me to call back a premium rate number so never called back. It’s even called in the middle of the night, which really ****** me off.

So a quick Google and I found pages like this which seemed to quite clearly indicate it was a scam. The next day I managed to answer it on the first ring and actually had someone on the other line to speak to. In my eagerness to point out they had been rumbled I made it quite clear I knew that they weren’t really Orange as he claimed. He thought it was quite funny and tried, whilst giggling, to recite some of my details. Again I made it clear that I was aware he had my Orange account details, probably from a stolen/leaked database, and it didn’t prove a thing. I told him that he’d never get any money from me so he might as well give up and stop calling. I never heard from them again.

Then, a few days back my wife mentioned that she was still being pestered. I explained what I knew and said that it was best to answer it, keep them on the phone for as long as possible (costing them money) but don’t give out any information. An hour later they phoned, she answered and they spoke. I kept prompting her to continue the call for as long as possible before handing the phone to me. After 5 minutes she did so. This time I feigned interest and tried to keep him on as long as possible. Bizarrely, he was actually trying to sell me Orange Broadband / line rental at the rates they advertise. We spoke about the broadband I had (with Sky) and it became apparent that he could not actually beat the deal I already had, they were 50 pence more expensive. He then pretty much gave up, when I was expecting him to offer me a better deal in the attempt to get some payment details to complete the scam. He did not however. Before he could end the call I then explained that I had researched who they were, and had just kept him on the phone for as long as possible to cost them money.

Now’s the really weird bit. Rather than laugh it off and hang up, he spent a further 5+ minutes trying to convince me of how genuine the call was, even though he knew the fake offer he was making wasn’t ever going to get any cash for him even if it was bona-fide. He offered to give me 0800 number to ring back. He prompted me to phone Orange and ask them about the call centre in Prague where they make outgoing sales calls (recently moved from Poland he said). He offered to stay on the phone for as long as I liked, as he was still getting paid regardless. He even responded to my mention of the pages of info on the scam, saying that they were aware of the issue and how they were trying to counteract it.

Now, I still think it’s probably a scam. I’d certainly never, ever give anyone like this any information, especially payment/financial information. But I just can’t work out the motivation for why he stayed on the phone for so long trying to futilely convince me of his authenticity even though he knew that I wouldn’t have been interested anyway. If it’s not a scam and Orange have a third party sales force working on commission then that’s just as bad as their calling pattern (frequency, time of day, etc) is despicable and would be enough to make sure I’d never re-sign with Orange again. Am I missing something?

ok i have recieved this call twice today the first time i missed it the second time i got an automated service saying they were from incom ???? and to ring them back to see why they called me.
obviously i'm not that daft so i not called them back but i googled the number and found this site.
i have since spoken to my sister who works in a mobile phone shop and is more up on these things than me. she said that if this number is targetting orange customers then there is some database leak from them selves but orange can not block any number from your phone but certain types of phone do have call barring,  number reject or number blocks on which may help but this is only on specific phones. ringing orange is not going to help although i feel the more people that ring thay may just look in to it. but my sister says that ending contracts with them on this basis will only cost you more money in the long run but people can certainly chose not to use them again when there contract is up. you can log compplaints with police and also there is a phone watchdog type company that looks out for these things you can may be try down that route ....... i think it might be ofcom or something like that

Dito, after over 10 attempts/missed calls I spoke to a fluent english speaking guy called Julian, very friendly even though I wasn't just wanted to say he was calling from Orange and because I've been with them for a while I can get a free upgrade. He said he was calling from Prague, I questioned why Orange were based there now, he didn't know! He wasn't sure what he was saying and I wouldn't give him my ISP details. I told him I knew what he was up to and where to go (very severely), let's see if that works.

He knew my name, but this could be taken off the internet.

Scam merchants.  If Orange are responsible for customer data being leaked then they should admit this and reassure you that your account details and payment details have not been compromised.  Do not pick up call however as it will cost you money.

Been ringing me 4-5 times a week for the last couple of months. I have been ignoring it so far. I have been an Orange customer for a decade, this is the first time I've had anything like this though. In the past I have been phoned about upgrades by various people at about the same time my contract with Orange was about to end, never from an overseas number, however.
