0084800

I am an australian traveller and have been in Vietnam for only 4 days. The number 0084800 called me twice this morning, I answered the second time.

The guy was Australian and said he was from a company called Global Couriers and he had a parcel for me but he could not read the address.

I told him I was in Vietnam travelling and he asked me when I was back, which i told him a rough estimate. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary at this time.

He then asked for my 'HOME' address and 'HOME' phone number. I gave him my postal address, which is a friends company and he made the comment that it was just around the corner from him, but then asked me what the postcode was. How could he be around the corner and not know the postcode? This told me something was not right about this call.

I told him that this was a business address, he then asked if it was my business. I told him no and he says well if you can't sign for the parcel then we won't be sending it, he then abrubtly hung up the phone. I am convinced this phone call is fishing for information.

When i put this number (0084800) into google, I am suprised to see that several forums are listed in Vietnamese, is this coincedence??

I can only assume that someone has a business where they receive your mobile number, probably from an accomodation booking website (I have used www.asiarooms.com), then they call you to get your home address, confirm that you're not there and then go around to rob your house.

This is my assumption though I wouldn't be surprised if I was correct. [***].

I got scammed on 0084600 too. My phone log (and the phone bill) had a record of two incoming calls from 0084800 (for a total 40 minutes) while I was traveling in Vietnam (the total cost was $270). Even though there was a record of the call, I never actually answered the phone (or was aware of the incoming calls at the time). I was baffled when I got my phone bill and saw the charges.

That is, until I saw this forum and realized other travelers in Vietnam have been scammed too. Fortunately, my phone carier was generous enough to credit me. I now only wish I knew how to prevent it.

I wanted to post this so that other people affected by this will know it's a scam.

Woah, just a few minutes ago I got a call from this number. It looked suspicious "0084800" so I know it's not a call from here (sweden). I googled it and arrived to this site. It seems like I was right, but how did they even get my HOME number? -.-
They have called twice, but I haven't picked it up. Do I have to pay a lot now? :O (phonebill)

I gave my number only on the Vietnam Airlines booking site. They have to have it from there. Next time I will use fake numbers.

I am in Vietnam and have had 3 phone calls from this number to my Australian mobile number. I have not answered one of the calls and they have not left a message on my voicemail to say why they are calling. I can only assume they are a scammer.

I am up to 4 missed calls. I also used my number for hotel bookings. Be careful as they are still scamming. I am not answering the calls.

Phone was off so I didn't answer it. Hope there's no surprises on my phone bill.

Yep im australian, living in vietnam, and ive been getting this number calling me on my australian (telstra) sim maybe 5-10 times over last few months.

Couple of times i have answered, and just listened - it sounds like telemarketer.  they have left me about 6 voice mails too, very annoying.  

Not sure how they got my phone number, i have used vietnam airlines, vietjet, maybe that is the problem...

OMG. Me, too. Do you still get charged even if you dont pick up?

I've had the same, 3 calls in a week. The only company that has my number is Jetstar Pacific, and the common theme here seems to be airlines. I've got £40 of extra charges on my phone but can't see what they're for yet, probably just roaming data. Will update if any charges appear related to this dodgy number.

Similar to most other posts here, I am tourist, but my number has not been used here except for a parcel delivery by a well known international courier company (booked in a country overseas).

I didn't pick up. I have a voice to text service and they left no message.

It could have been leaked from the courier company but I was also thinking it may have possibly been leaked from the telecommunications provider that is used in Vietnam by my country's telecommunications provider. The provider here is Viettel.

I had a phone call from this number twice and it was like 4.am in the morning for me. I was not impressed to be woken up. I tried to call the number back or text back but it was unknown number. I am here in Vietnam and I gave my number to estate agents when I was looking for a place to rent.

I just got a call from this number. The woman said she is from American Express and try to inform something important.
And then asked me to verify the card. I think it's a scam and google this number and come here.
So be careful everyone.

Two calls from this number. I'm in Vietnam travelling from the UK. Haven't answered either of them. Only time I have given my number out is the Vietjet and Jetstar websites.

Got several missed calls from this number over the course of the night.  I'm from the US traveling to Vietnam and also flying several Vietnamese airlines.  Did not pick up the call as I was asleep.  Looks like they are still active
