Its Amex Fraud Protection services, probably just wanted to verify a recent transaction!

What happens if you don't have an american express card?

They are trying to get you give them your credit card details. DOn't do it!

This is a genuine number, 01273 576806. It is the Amex Fraud line. I got a text from them today asking me to call and suspecting it might be fraudulent i call amex on the phone number on the back of my card. when i got thru they said they had sent the text because they want to check some activity on my card - turns out flights and accommodation had been booked for several thousand pounds. But they assured me i was not liable for any fraud on my card.

If you get a text like this don't ignore it, but rather contact the bank / card provider on the number on your card / statement and go through to their fraud dept that way.
