claimed to be from HSBC, I asked him to call back but he hasn't yet...

BEWARE! The number 01325500037 is NOT HSBC.

I got a call from the above number claiming to be from HSBC and wanted to ask me security questions. I didn't want to answer anything and asked the caller to call back.

I then asked the HSBC internet banking helpline to confirm the number and they say they do not recognise it.

I just received a call from this number and the chap claimed to be from HSBC. He said I can call back 0845 6030246 which does go through to them.

I just had a call from this number and the foreign lady said she was from HSBC and asked me security questions. I informed her that I have never given HSBC my mobile telephone number but she wouldnt comment on this and continued to take me through security questions to which I refused to answer. When asking what the call was about she said she couldn't answer that until the security questions were completed. Unsure but sounds very dodgey!

I just missed a call from this number but when I tried to call it back it comes up with 'number not in use'.
I am expecting a call from HSBC so I think it is leggit. Maybe they just don't accept incoming calls on this number?

It is HSBC don't be so paranoid!

I got the same call - enquired with HSBC as I have recently just applied for a motrgage there & this is a scam - has NOTHING to do with my mortgage application.

The guy that called me said it was a call for an 'update' which was a bit believable but when I asked him to clarify what the update was for he could not answer and kept asking me same questions over & over and I hung up.

claimed to be from hsbc bank and started to ask me security questions,the guy could hardly speak english and claimed to be called alan,put the phone down on him it felt really wrong

I had this call today regarding "an important issue about my business account" and was suspicious so didn't give my security details.

I called my local branch, they know nothing about this number. HSBC use 08455 and 08457 numbers.

Same here, same number, several calls always some person with foreign accent so i just hang up!

HSBC Fraud prevention department:

to clear everyones concern: If you were called from 01325500037 or 01514798063, they 'really' are both from the HSBC fraud prevention department.

I was suspicious initially, so i got the persons name and an extension number and called the HSBC main number (08457 404 404) and they put me through to the person who actually called me..

I can concur with this, it is definitely HSBC generally following up on current business process that anyone may well be in the middle of, but they typically do not leave messages when calling from this line.

I had a call this morning from this number, claiming to be from HSBC, regarding an important issue regarding my account, but I have to answer the security questions, I refused and told them to write to me at my address,  then went personally to an HSBC branch near me and asked them about this no. They checked my account and everything ok and no notices or anything on the account and they said that they do not recognise the number, and advised me not to give my details to any one calling from that number.

I read sunny's post and I don't understand why HSBC are saying it is not recognised by them and not to give any details to them despite this number belongs to them?

A man with a very strong Asian accent called this morning, Sept 14th, asking to speak to me, I said that I was not at home and could I take a message for me.  He said that was confidential and rang off.  After dialing 1471 I rang the number only to be told that it was not recognized.

The number you claim is not HSBC is in fact HSBC
but you can not call it
they prefer you to call their numbers starting 0845 because they make money from you while you are making that call
0845 number are NOT local rate numbers
They are much cheaper than 090 premium rate numbers
but 0845 numbers are still charged at a premium higher than Local rate
and just like 090 numbers when you call 0845 numbers the company you are calling receive a percentage of the cost of your call

Wanted security imformation.
A UK number but a very thick 'indian' voice with a bad line and delay.
Was not happy so asked them to call back - Called my bank who were interested and confirmed it was not them  - internet search brought me here!
Hope they call back - not a lot on this afternoon.

Had a call from this number claiming to be from M and S Money wanting my credit card details confirmed. I was very suspicious even though he had my birth date, which I did not confirm. He had very good english, but sounded african.

I think this can be confirmed it IS HSBC - I opened a dispute on a transaction yesterday and had missed calls this morning from this number - woman left message with Asian / Indian accent.

The reason HSBC local branches do not recognise the number is how it is routed from the call centres in India or wherever to the UK and the 01325 number is the local break out.

Of course I would advise if you have NOT recently requested a product or service or raised an issue with HSBC and you get a call - it's better to be cautious and refuse to give out any security details but call the customer service helpdesk 08457 404 404 who if it is a legitimate call will be able to transfer you to the correct department.
