I used Confused.com and received a call almost immediately after i received my quotes

If you check the 'About Us' or data protection policies of these sites you will see by using them you are giving permission for any of the insurance companies to contact you, so it doesn't matter if you are registered with TPS or not. Best to give a fake number or none at all if you don't want contacted.

Filled details into moneysupermarket.com and was rung by these whilst still looking at quotes. Seemed a decent enough quote so I inadvertently left bank details, supposedly having to wait an hour for their legal department to confirm my policy. I had to ring them back after an hour and a half to confirm insurance. At this point they said that they had taken over £100 from my bank without any notification.
ADVICE - Although their quote was a good one DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY BANK DETAILS ON FIRST CALL

I never even put my number down and still got a call within 5 mins

Used compare the market for a quote for insurance, soon after i recieved a missed call from them checked the number online ended up on this site.
Have read your comments, and will not give them my bank details ect, but it's nice to know who phoned.

Performance Direct Car insurance... Called me after they gave me a rediculous price online.

Got 2 quotes on gocompare and had 4 calls in last 2 weeks!!!!!!!

5 calls lasting only a couple of secs.

I have received numerous silent calls from this number and also used gocompare so no doubt that is the explanation. These calls are highly irritating and makes me inclined to use a different insurance comparison website next year.
