Got call from this number from London Diplomatic Service or somesuch. Is basically someone with a plummy accent trying to sell subscriptions or sponsorships to the book below.

Usual waste of money I imagine, spend your money elsewhere much more effectively with sales calls imho!!

They are notorious scammers! Being sliperly again. Difficult to keep on top of them.

I've been well trained to intercept calls like this

Somehow they got my direct line.  They consumed 16 minutes of my time, pretending to be a government department.  Very posh accent and highly entertaining.  If you have 16 minutes spare.

Caller gave name of GEORGE WILLIAMS and said he was calling from Diplomatic Office seeking experts in agri-food section - plummy accent, very persistent, demands to speak to MD.  Tries to 'guilt you' by implying you are failing the company by not dealing with them.  Nuisance more than anything, as he has called several times.

Took a call seeking "translation and interpreting expertise" for a "government initiative" which is particularly sought-after by "high net worth individuals", apparently.  The caller confused my business with a similarly-named company in India.  When I challenged the name as being "The Diplomatic Office" rather than "The Diplomatic Service", the caller identified themselves as being the publisher of "The Diplomatic Book" and went on to suggest buying space in it.  I said I had that covered and wrapped up the call in two minutes.

Phone calls and emails received from George Marshall, Co-ordinator Inward Investment at The Diplomatic App, Book and Website.  Proclaiming support from organisations including KPMG and Shearman Sterling (Tax), Ernst Young and Clifford Chance (Islamic Finance), Linklaters (Corporate Finance), Oxford University and Cambridge University (Patent Box) and Dentons (IP Protection). A snip at £4,950 for inclusion in a book, an app and website!  Web searches return a website that doesn't work and a Twitter account with 130 random followers.  Hardly evidence of a valuable source of reference in this digital world.

Thanks for the post above.  My business has been scammed by this bunch in the last year for close to £2k.  Do you have any further information about them?  I will be making a number of complaints/legal moves to stop other's being sucked in.

These people seem to have a new name - called the Diplomatic Liaison - with a watered down website, but still talking about being the publishers of the Diplomatic Book. Offered us a place in their upcoming super important mobile app - at only £1,250 + VAT thank you very much. Very friendly on the phone, talked my ear off the first time. They claim we will be one of only 5 translation companies to be offered the spot - yet we are not a multilingual company, so how will they offer all the other languages? To be avoided.
