An Asian-sounding man named James called me 4 times - I kept putting the phone down after telling him Im skeptical because I've heard of such scams. He told me my internet provider had informed their company I have a problem with my computer running slow. I told him I had just installed new antivirus ware and had done a scan half an hour previously and guess what - no viruses detected. He knew I was with BTbroadband, not sure how, could have been a lucky guess.. I asked for his phone number, address etc, he gave them hesitantly -couldn't make out the address ?67A Whitefall WA1 7QX. He was persistent to say the least but I wasnt budging. On the last callI repeatedly told him I wasnt interested and to put the phone down and not call again and he dared to laugh, I m not a violent person but I did say if he was stood in front of me he would have a fist in his face, so obnoxious he was, kept making stupid sniggering noises! Anyway he finally put the phone down after me shouting numerous times 'put the phone down and dont call again!' Beware of such scum. Their website looks genuine enough aswell, Please dont be foolled by them

Had a phone call from a company called PC Webwork.  The number was witheld but when I googled the company this number came up.  An Indian-sounding woman said she knew that my computer was running slowly and that she knew I was running Windows on my PC and laptop.  I queried how on earth she could know this information and she said my Internet Service Provider told them. This is such a load of rubbish, there is no way this sort of information could be obtained, and we don't use Windows on our computer anyway we use Linux Mint.  When I told her this she didn't know what to say and hung up.  This is a SCAM and they are relying on the fact that most people feel at some stage that their computers are running slowly and most people use Windows.  I sickens me that they are scamming older people who may not know enough to realise they are being conned.

This scam was highlighted on "You've been Scammed", BBC1, 21st November.  These people will install spyware/malware on the computer if given remote access.  Any money they ask for to "fix" the nonexistent faults seems to be a diversion to hide what they are really doing.  The Director of Security for Microsoft stated, on the same programme, that neither Microsoft, nor its partners, would ever cold call you.  It would be be a breach of their privacy rules.

There is a variation on the scam as well. If you are initially taken in by the scam and provide a payment then decline any "service" when you do become aware of the scam, they do follow up with a call saying they are aware you no longer take their service and want to repay your subscription. They then say that it can only be done by bank transfer which they will do for you if you transfer control of your computer to them as it would be done through Western Union, a recognised company. They then fill in the Western Union form on your screen  moving through the pages quickly, merely pausing for you to fill in your requisit bank details. The next thing you know when you check your bank account is that the sum you were expecting to be payed in to your account has in fact been abstracted to an Indian account. As you had effectively "authorised" the transfer on the Western Union form there is little you can do to to reclaim the amount.

I just went through  the same crap also. I was very skeptical, however they had me type in this crap after typing s while holding windows key...After awhile had me allow them remote access at that www.teamviewer web site...Also said they worked for Microsoft and they were receiving Error messages.."that showed up on what they had me type in my computer" that's how they convinced me...Also told me that it would cost me 125.00 for a new windows key #...As I watched them to begin going through my computer I stopped them....I immediately called Microsoft guess what found out SCAM...Microsoft said to remember they never come up Unknown number, never work through 3rd parties, and only go through support me and they give you a 6 digit number not ask for yours....

    cab fell for it
In colorado, same thing--claiming to be a representative of Microsoft, that my computer was ready to fail, etc, had I noticed it was a little slow, going in to boxes to show me how many things were wrong, taking me to teamviewer.com, which was when I suspected, finally, that it was an advert. I  hung up, "Mike" called back to tell me he was legit, to go to pcwebwork.com. I hung up again. Best advice from reading above, is that Microsoft will never call you, no matter how dire the caller sounds....Hmfff!

Not sure of the phone number as the calls I have been getting are listed as "Unknown" on my phone.  Pretty sure it is the same company.  Anyway in February after having trouble with my email account I contacted what I thought was a Microsoft online service to help me through the problem.  Turns out they were a company called PC Web Work and after using their scare tactics that I may lose all my files they convinced me to pay them $249.95 (via credit card to Techno Serv) and presto all my files came up and my internet problem was solved.  Simultaneously they loaded a program labeled CCleaner and their contact info to access for a 5 year service guarantee.   A few months later they contacted  me again and told me that my system was exhibiting additional problems.  For an additional $99.00 fee needed "to update my license with Microsoft" they would clear the problems.  Again I fell for their spiel and paid the money via credit card.  Lately they have been phoning me again.  Today we connected and they informed me that the purpose for their call was that they could no longer provide their services so they wanted to refund my initial fee of $249.95.  They needed to access my system in order to reverse what was loaded initially.  I stupidly allowed them access and they started messing with my system.  They then requested I give them my bank routing and account number in order to refund the money.  I told them they could simply credit my Visa card or send me a check and they said they could not do it that way.  I refused to give them my bank info and they got upset with me and told me they no longer would deal with me and were "locking" up my computer.  Again I refused them the bank info and they stated "we are locking up your computer and you will lose all your files".  I immediately unplugged my computer and cut off their connection.  That really made the "Asian" accented individual angry and said "you've done it now!" and he was going to hang up and that I had lost all my files and my entire system.   Fortunately when I restarted my computer all came back up normally.

this is exactly the response anyone should give to such an unsolicited call. the only thing different that I do is tell them the reason you need their name, badge number, extension, supervisors name ect..., is so you can contact the police and other authorities. this is typically when they hang up on me ;)
