two phone calls today from this number, what can we do. help

This number keeps on ringing me constantly, i have had enough. I pick up the phone and it just goes quiet and is finally put down. Does anyone know who it is?

This number has called me 4 times today. I am told by a friend that used to work in a call centre that when there is a delay after you pick up your phone before anyone speaks, its definitely a call centre trying to sell you a service.  The comanys computer system dials out a lot of numbers at a time, by going down a whole series of numbers (numbers are random so it doesnt matter whether you are ex-directory or not) and when you pick upyour phone, if there is a call centre telephone worker (slave!) available, they will pick up their end - hence the delay.  If it seems like someone has hung up on you after a short delay - this is because the call centre workers are all on other calls and no-one can respond to your pick up.  It shouldnt be allowed, it is such a pain and we are considering not having a home phone at all.

I have just had a call, as you say the line goes dead, must be an automated dialler, it is illegal to a point in the UK, but If they do pick up I will threaten them with TPS, they will never call again £5K fine

As there all overseas calls nothing can stop them!!

I'm in Ayrshire,Scotland and I have received these calls over the last few weeks.  Its a company trying to claim you are due PPI settlement.  I've told them I am not interested and I'm not due any money back as I've never had a loan,credit card etc but they don't listen so now sometimes if I pick up I leave the phone next to loud music or the tv to listen to Jeremey Kyle.  Its def a call centre as there is a delay when answering obviously because they are dialling several numbers at a time.  The other morning at 9.30am I got the call again and I wasn't in a particuarly pleasant mood so they got a massive blood curdling scream down the phone, they haven't called back since.

That number just called and hung up as soon as I said hello.

I got a 'message' left with no actual message so checked last received call - this was the No which tied in with the empty message.

It doesn't conform to UK phone Nos and I'm getting very irritated with what seems to be a whole new pile of irritattion empty messages from Nos that can't possibly be valid just recently.

As a result of reading all the comments on here yesterday I decided to fight back.  I bought a whistle.  Can you imagin the satisfaction I got this morning when I got another call from a woman saying that she worked for Pheonix financial and I had claimed PPI which I havent and I blew the whistle down the phone as hard as I could.  Lets see if I get any more calls because I will keep doing the same until thes creeps get the message.  This number by the way was 00.  Everyone who is being pestered should do the same as I have done and buy a whistle.  It will do a great deal for the British economy.
