Received a call from this number after 9.00pm last Saturday night.  Really annoyed me because it wasn't anything important or an emergency call being so late, just a call that hung up and didn't leave a message.

Just had someone call up a client with the same "I'm from Microsoft let me help you" etc

Just reported the number to Microsoft, the tech said it can also be reported via this site and thanked me for my call. http://www.scamwatch.gov.au/

FYI: Microsoft WILL NOT CALL YOU, unless you have opened a support ticket or communication with them and provided them with your contact number.

    annoyed and tired
10:45pm, household sound asleep, received a call from this number, when I answered it I just got elevator music, so I listened and eventually they hung up. I called back and the phone just rang out. I tried again this morning and the same thing, it just rings out.

Don't be a sucker to these scammers! I've had this call months ago and so has my sister. Some Indian woman tries to tell me that my computer has a lot of errors. Now I'm not tech nerd but I can get by, and with regular virus and spyware scans as well as system scans I'm pretty confident that there's nothing wrong with my computer. But my question to this woman was "How do you know my computer has errors?" She says "Because you have Windows". I said, "No, HOW do you KNOW my computer has errors?" What I was asking is how does she know what my computer is doing internally? Is she remotely connected to it? Did I ask her to do that? What right has she to investigate my computer without permission? I suspected a scam from the start, but I played along as she asked me to click this and click that, and check this and that file, as she supposedly guided me through the "repair" process. (Gee, all for free? What a nice lady!) I didn't open anything of course, I just faked it. These people are after personal information - bank details, passwords, PIN numbers, tax records - ID theft in action! Your firewall will normally block intruders looking for such things, but if you do as they ask and open this and that for them on your computer then they are most likely using you to get around your firewall and anti-virus software so that they can install spyware like "key loggers"  to record your keystrokes, your banking passwords and PIN numbers, and send the information back to their location. If someone tells you that your computer has errors then they are either lying to you and attempting a scam, or else they somehow have access to your computer and they are able to interrogate it from their location. It has to be one or the other, and either one should make you VERY suspicious! Tell these people that you resent them believing that you are a dumb and stupid idiot - I do! And then hang up on them!

Yeah they are getting you to install key logging software, they direct you to a website www.logmein123.com or www.ammyy.com and then they get you to click to install software. Unfortunately for me my 10 year old answered the phone and did exactly what the man said the first time.  I have had to take my computer in to get the software removed and the computer guy told me to be really safe I need to format my computer.  They have since rang back a no of times.  I make them wait for hours and play with them....... and say my computer crashes.... ha  ha

This is a scam, claiming to be a firm contracting for MS Windows Security Centre. They just want to gain access to your computer for malicious purposes. If you a have bit of time to waste, string them along, but of course don't follow their directions. At the very least it will mean that they aren't scamming anyone else while they are dealing with you. If they phone me again I'll apologise at the beginning and claim I have a syndrome that makes me swear uncontrollably, and every now and then let rip with a few choice words.

Received a call from an Indian lady stating she was from the ATO and I had received a $7,500 grant needed to ring her Senior Officer on this number 0261004030  and quote reference number to get paper work underway. I am so lucky he he!!! wish the government were so giving to ordinary Australians. I assume this is another scam.

Had a call from this number yesterday claiming to be from the Taxation Office in Canberra. Very difficult to understand the purpose of the call but after a couple of attempts deciphered that I was to be given $1000. The caller was happy to give me his phone number( which I had him repeat a few times as he had a strong accent) and even gave me a reference no. for when I called back

I work at the ATO and have had a few calls from customers about this number - this is a scam - do not give any information to these people. All my customers have confirmed that the callers have Indian accents. I have reported this scam to ATO intelligence to investigate further.

I didn't get a call from this number, I had a call from a number I can't trace telling me they were from the tax office and to ring this 02 6100 4030 number with a confirmation code to receive a $7000 government grant. I have not called the number. And yes it was an Indian accent.

Just got a call from this number saying they're from the ATO and my husband had been awarded an $7000 appreciation grant from the government for being a loyal citizen with no criminal record or bankruptcy and this money was tax free and none returnable and that he had to call back with his details.

I kept the guy on the hone for as long as I could - if he was talking to me then he wasn't scamming some other poor soul.

Same scam, new phone number: See the thread for 0261008155
As per JW and Louise above, I just had an almost identical phone call from "Michael Adam at the ATO in Canberra." He said my husband was one of 1200 people selected out of 10,000 who were eligible for a one-off "appreciation grant" of around $7000 for his good record. To claim, he would have to phone 02 6100 4030 and quote reference A163. The caller spoke English with an Indian accent and there were long distance beeps throughout the call. When I asked for his contact details he wouldn't give them. This scam uses a number of different contact numbers apparently.

Thanks Debbie. My Mother in Law received a call today offering the same thing. An "appreciation grant" of $7,000 with reference number A163. My sister in law Janette rang the number 02 61004030 and they asked how to spell mum's name. Which she told the recipient, but that's all.

I told Janette, if someone rings/ emails/ sms offering money and you don't know them and they don't know specific detail about you then it is a scam.

I hope you can track them.

Same as a lot of the other ones.  My husband has been given a grant from ATO for $7,000.  The callers (Indian) name was Michael Adam, I had to call 02 6100-4030 and give ref A163.  I thought it was a scam too and have not called the number.  I will now report it to ATO.

received a phone call stating that if I called 026100 3632 and quoted ref No A275 I would receive an ATO appreciation Grant , I knew it was a scam, these people should be jailed for the stress that some individuals would go through.

Very rude, arrogant male claiming he worked for HP for our printer. We googled to fix the printer and this was the number we got. Ended hanging up because wanted to take over our computer. Getting a computer tech out today just in case. Don’t ring this number or if they call you just hang up. 02 6100 4030
