Persistant callers (Indian call centre I think). Hang up if TPS is mentioned but it doesn't stop them calling again!

I received a call earlier which terminated as soon as I answered.
From 1471, I was told that the number calling was 02814767868.
I tried to call the number but recieved a message saying "The number you have dialled has not been recognised".
    What is the point?

Have had about 10 calls from thsi number now. Most of them have been interceprted by my daughter & they've rung off & said they'll call later,so when they rang just now, I was ready for them.

As all others said - same accent, same supposed company (Consumer Research Council), but when I asked where she got my number I was told I was on their data base! strange as I am also TPS registered. When I said that I wasn't interested & could she please make sure I was removed from the database, the answer was "Oh, you're not interested? I'll call later"!!!!

Lucky me, better get a whistle!

Recieved a call form this number today and when asked if it was convienient I said no it wasnt as i was eating dinner then they rudely stated that it would only take a few minutes. I then informed them that my wife had just passed away the previous day and she continued to say that she wanted to put me through to research advertising centre. I then hung up but they havent disconnected the line and now I can not use my phone to dial out. Unfortunately we cant get a hold of our phone line suppliers!! So who knows how long we will be phoneless for.

I had a call today with Number Unavailable shown from a male Indian call centre worker who asked for me by name and then said he was doing a "UK State of The Nation Survey" and would I mind answering a few questions.  I said what were the questions about and he wouldn't tell me.  Then when I said I might consider answering them he said was I agreeable to being called back by their marketing partners about any service that I said I was interested in.  I said I was not.

When I asked where he was calling from he said London but when I then said that no one from his country who had spent any time in the UK had the metallic Indian accent he did or used the odd expressions he did (which are normal colloquial Indian English as spoken between Indians but not how even Indians who live here and have any experience of working here speak it) he then gave up the pretence that he was in London at all. At this point I demanded to speak to his supervisor and he cut me off.

From the whole style of the call and the attempt to say they were representing numerous different UK companies I am sure this is precisely the same Indian call centre outfit that also goes by the name of Consumer Research Centre and Lifestyle Research Centre.  But presumably due to the mountain of complaints now building up against them they have changed names again and found a way to withhold CLI to avoid any danger of the normally highly complacent and incompetent TPS and ICO being prepared to take action against them.

If you can't provide a phone number or address the TPS Complaint website and ICO helpline always maintains there is nothing they can do about the company.

Can these jokers really not afford to have their phone number compared with the TPS so that they only call willing victims.  Surely with even half the UK's phone lines registered for TPS there are still enough lines to call and most of these people are likely to far more readily go along with the scam (given that they have still not registered with the TPS despite all the active promotion of it over the last few years).

March 2012 and they are still at it but now calling with Number Unavailable shown and saying they are calling "on behalf of British Consumers" and pretending that it is Market Research!

See my post as Capvemell at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?p=51660187#post51660187 for more information

They claimed to be calling from Manchester even though they were clearly overseas (from the line quality with an echo on the line etc) and the guy calling today had an odd blend of an Indian and Eastern European accent rather than the normal all runallmywordstogethersir standard form of Indian English

Just had a new overseas team operating the same sting but now under the name of Global Equity News of pretending to do a market research survey asking about the state of the economy and then whether you hold any investments or have bought any recently,

From his accent and my previous dealings with Be Unlimited the caller was clearly Bulgarian and I could hear that other callers in the same call centre next to him were also Bulgarian.  When I challenged him that weren''t they going to sell my data to people who would call me about Carbon Equities, Rare Earth Metals and Fine WInes as investments he denied it but in such a way that it was obvious it was true and he knew the games was up.

In this case the number was just straightforward Internatiional/Unavailable rather than a faked UK telephone number.  If you get a call from Global Equity News do not complete the survey or you will be pestered with calls from numerous different variants of the Boiler House investments scam.

Why don't they take no for an answer?  As usual it took 2 "hellos" before anyone bothered to speak.  Indian-accent (I can say that, my bf is half-Indian) lady said "Can I speak to Mrs (surname)"?  She's not available - yet again the old question that gives it away every time "Are you a member of the household"?  By this time my "cold calling" antenna was up!  She was from Consumer Research again!  If I had £1 for every time they've rung us (in the last week!!!!) I wouldn't have to do the lottery.  We keep saying we aren't interested.  Silly Mrs (lol) answered some of their questions (apparently to do with double-glazing at the time) and then they started asking personal questions (how much the house was worth, where did we do our banking etc) but now they are ringing every day (sometimes even 3/4 times a day).  I said to the last idiot that rang 3 times, "I've just spoken to someone from Consumer Research"!!  All I got in reply was "It wasn't me".  I put the phone down.  10 minutes later the same man (with the SAME NAME) rang!  I said "I've just spoken to you and told us to stop bothering us" and he slammed the phone down!  TPS don't do anything at all - we've been registered for ages (due to my "rude word" of a x giving it out to anyone who wanted it as revenge for being dumped) but they haven't done anything.  In fact we've had more phone calls since being TPS registered than we had before we were TPS registered.  Complaint to BT did nothing!
