I missed (my first) one call from this lot, at 4.51 pm (AEST), Thur 3 April 2008.  I am with optus on a pre-paid simcard (so I too hope that they not eating up my creds somehow). I too didn't recognize the number so thought maybe I should google it (like others have done also). Has anyone tried calling this number after hours?  I'm a night owl, maybe i'll try it at 3 am. if i get something other than whats already been said here, i'll come back and let know the results.

missed call from 0290165617 today

missed this on my mobile and called back on my home phone got the message "goodbye" too, (called back 6:10 7/4/08)
however home phone is a supercheap internet line using phone that is based in europe i think, so hopefully i wont be affected

Just got a missed call from this number and had the "Congratulations..." message on it. I immediately hung up and googled it (here you all are). I also tried the number on my landline but it said "Goodbye" so I guess it knows if you are using a mobile or not. Tricky.

Would love to know whether a) anyone has been charged anything by this number; and b) whether anyone's had any luck with blocking/reporting this number to Telstra or Optus?

I too just recieved a call about the competition described by others in this thread. I selected two since telstra is already scamming money from my account.

Wonder what it was all about?

11:11 am on 10th April i recieced a missed call from 0290165617  It didn't even get to vioce mail- my will say no v/m left or v/m left.  I didn't know the number or anyone in the 02 (Sydney) area.  I googled it and found this site!!! Imagine my surprise! I rang Optus who told me they have no record of any incidents from this number, she even put me on hold to ring it- she got the "Goodbye" msg. concerned i asked what they could do to protect my privacy & billing.  Nothing,if there are any bill discrepencies when i get my next bill i can lodge an appeal and optus will deal with it accordingly!! My husband has just called his number is onyl a couple of digits after mnieand yes he got the call too.

i recieved a call from this number 0290165617 & it was a recording then it hung up so i rang it back it was a recording that just said "goodbye" & hung up again. Anyone who recieves this call i advise not to answer it as it took $5 credit from my prepaid.

Got a call from this number at 11.52 while i was at work...rang back at 12.11 only to hear the "Congratulations" crap.

do not press 1 or 2 under any circumstances, it signs you up for a daily download service that costs money each day. if you get caught out, complain and demand a refund.

Call 1300 767 306  . it will ask you to leave your mobile to stop the Texting. I just made up a bogus number 0404XXXXXXXX. it will then ask if you wish for further assistance, hold on the line. A person from Sydney will pick up. ( however is is a friken American Jewish company ) You then can ask to remove your number as well as abuse them or complain.

my daughter answered the call with the trivia questions then hung up.she received sms from them saying what are you waiting for she didnt reply but her optus pre paid credit is gone. it seems we've been scaammed.

Yes I received a call from 02 90165617 today, it actually rang & I got the prerecorded msg to say they have credited my mobile and to answer the prime minister question. I hung up and rang back like a fool to see if they had something to stop text/msg but the recording said "goodbye". I am with 3, who are these crazy scammers? I hope I dont get charged $5.00 for each call, someone out there is making a lot of money with these calls, Frikin useless bas%$rds!! Am going to get on that Quiz Club American website abd abuse the crap out of these deranged donkeys. I will give them MY $5.00 worth. Lets all get on their website & abuse THEIR privacy: see how they like it.

This number called me on my mobile.  I was busy so I didn't answer it.  I figure if they need to contact me, they would call back again.

same thing i got///.... was thinking about calling phone provider to verify anything but figured since it is 3 mobile and it's overseas that it might not be worth the hassle...

I just got one of those calls, now im worried! I hung up mid sentence, but who knows if they try to bill you. i found some info on it.

It's just a Wiki but i don't even know if this is legit, check it out it seems to have the business' info email etc...

calling my phone company now, to make sure i don't get scammed and they have it on record, so i have a comeback if they try billing me.

Boy, am I glad I did not hear my mobile phone ringing while "global roaming" in Abu Dhabi! Still worried that I may have missed something important back in Australia, I googled the number - and... surprise! I am not the only one. Rang back via VoipBuster (=free) and got just the "goodbye" treatment - obviously the scam is set up for mobile phones only.
