- SimonCardiff telephone number displayed: 029 2043 5806.
I live 20 miles from Cardiff so answered the call. Call centre worker calling for British Heart Foundation apparently. Advised her we were TPS listed and she said "It doesn't apply as this is a Market Research call, not asking for donations".
Now I know that TPS doesn't apply to Market Research calls, but the number of such calls I have fielded in the past which started out as a 'survey' but then wanted all your contact details (so they can put you on everyone else's begging list for donations, I'm sure...).
Whatever - you can be sure the call for actual donations would have been received sooner or later!
I'm getting sick and tired of this - and I'd expect more from a reputable organisation like the BHF. When will they learn that cold-calling just turns people against you?- Caller: British Heart Foundation
- Call type: Survey
- AndyPCalled asking about my use of public transport
- Tonycalled the mobile asking to speak to someone who deals with "energies"
have a nice day now and hung up - nickwilcockWas called earlier today on some marketing pretence. Advised the caller the number was registered with TPS and asked for it to be deleted from his database.
High time that these calls were banned.- Caller: Neither know nor care
- Kitty| 2 repliesSurvey about where I shop locally I don't live anywhere near Carduff
- David replies to Kitty| 1 replyGot one today, and yes it was about shopping habits. Unlike some calls, the lady was polite and to be honest, I didn't mind answering. She's had a job to do ............. one which I wouldn't fancy.
- IzzyThis telephone number has been ringing us for the last week. As we are ex-directory and do not recognise the number we do not answer. We have an answer machine which clicks in and then they hang up.
Today from 3pm - .30 they have phoned six times.
Gettimng fed up keep rushing to answer the phone and then see the caller I.D.- Caller: unknown
- MayLady wanted to ask me some questions about market research. Number of questions about where I shop.
- Call type: Survey
- Phil replies to DavidTrouble is these calls are usually a telephone number harvesting excercise - you details will be passed on to telemarketers. I have tracked a few nuisance calls back to these companies.
I made the mistake of speaking to them once and was plagued with calls for months after despite being registered with TPS for at least 10 years.
They call you under the guise of market research but the intention is to get your consent to other companies calling you. - JennyI received a call from this number yesterday evening at 18.29 ~ a lady purporting to be conducting a survey. I pointed out that I was registered with the TPS and bade her farewell.
- Call type: Survey
- Dave SThis number has wrong a crazy number of times over the last week. Getting sick of it, and others, but can't find a solution as TPS is useless, nobody respects it anymore.
- Caller: Unknown
- Fellside13Getting repeated calls from these leeches. Haven't answered yet as I read this page first. As it's on my mobile, I have saved the number with a sutable 'name' so that I can immediately cancel any calls. Would suggest that if you can bar individual numbers you do but they'll probably start using another one. Unfortunately as it is classed as 'market research' it is without the rules of TPS.
- Caller: n/k
- Martin GMarket Research Agency who declines to state on whose behalf they are working.
Seems that they ignore the TPS system claiming immunity.- Caller: Unknown
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Ian EdwardsI have taken a call from this organisation this week. As a retired Police DCI I took the opportunity to ask a few questions of my own. It turns out that the caller in question is a market research agency based in Cardiff, which explains the different types of calls people have been receiving.
My telephone is both ex-directory and TPS, so I was quite hostile initially. The person I spoke with provided me with a reference of the Market Research Society (www.mrs.org.uk ) which the company is a member of. I undertook some of my own research and it appears that the TPS immunity is true as the restriction only apply to telesales and telemarketing. That said TPS registered telephone numbers should only be used if there are not enough non-TPS telephone numbers available. There are strict data privacy rules, so the caller is not allowed to share your personal data with the organisation that is commissioning the survey. Which means if you take part in a survey the answers cannot be linked to you in anyway.
I hate to say it but it seems this company is legitimate. However, I have learnt how to spot the real cowboys. Here are a couple of really good resources I used:
http://www.mrs.org.uk/standards
http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/tps/index.html
www.dma.org.uk/
I hope this information proves useful.

- Bob..Hi
I have just had a call from these peeps... Did not answer, but did search and came up with this page.. - SheilaI have just taken a call from these people, who wanted to do a survey on retail habits. I thought no harm in trying to get our retail sales people up to speed. When asked which shopping centre would I use, half of my options were in South Wales; as I live in North Wales I thought that a bit odd.
I hope Ian Edwards is right in saying that they are legitimate and will not share information as I do not want to be bombarded any more than I am already with 'silent' phone calls which seem to start from 8 am and go on until 9 pm.- Call type: Survey
- Annoyed of LeominsterAnother one of those annoying unwanted phone calls that are made using random number searches on a computerised phone system!!!
- AnonCalled me yesterday, seems they wanted to speak to people affected by cancer. Turns out as my wife has already died, they're not interested in speaking to me.
