I just answered the phone and got a few seconds silence and then they hung up, 1471 revealed the number as 0301, surely telephone customers should expect to be protected fron annoyances like this from their providers.

Had a call from this number asking to speak to Mr or Mrs xxxx.  As my ex has been gone over 2 years they obviously don't have very up to date records! I asked who was calling and the man (who had a very distinct indian accent) started whittering on about how he was calling to offer a government backed scheme to consolodate debt.  I just put the phone down on him.  There seems to be no way of stopping this sort of call so we just have to do the 'un-British' thing and just don't talk to them.  And while I'm having a moan, what sort of stupid number is 0301 anyway? Who the hell has a phone number with only 4 numbers in it. And where are they getting details of ex-directory phone numbers, TPS registered phone numbers and names?
    • Caller: probably a bunch of scammers.

Had a call from this guy last night looking for the previous owner of our number, told him he gad wrong information said goodbye and hung up. He then phoned back instantly and shouted why did I hang up, so I had fun fielding his questions with ridiculous answers, then my mobile rang and I said have to go as the president was calling on the hotline. He rang back twice again and let the phone ring once just to annoy me and again this morning.
Anyone know if the truecall device will work with this number?

i hav Truecall and it zap these number with no problem, I've just checked my call list online and it shows that I have 5 calls from this number, 0301, in the last couple of days, none of which rang my phone, you get the option in the call list to report it but as it isn't th whole number I'm not sure how succssful tha would be.

I have no connection with Virgin that I know of (apart from having been sold some pretty poor quality Virgin-vie makeup at a makeup party!!)  The thing I have noticed though is that there doesn't seem to be any reports of calls from this number much before March of this year, and there has been a major rise in calls in the past few days.  As I said in my last post, I just put the phone down on these annoying people and thankfully I don't seem to have received any calls since.  Perhaps I have just been lucky...

ive been having these calls for over a year since i was connected to virgin. ive tried a number of things including putting the phone down but yr right u must be lucky cos i get them 2 to 3 times a day and on some occasions they dont even speak.i have resorted to not answering the phone now and just pressing 1471 but they just dont give up, i have seached the web and on one web page people have been experiencing this since 2007. the reason i asked if any 1 was on virgin was because i no that people i no on other networks are not experiencing this...

3 calls from this 0301 within last 30 mins on my BT landline.  Last one I got to speak to some Indian guy [it's my lucky day folks] asking for Mrs Bruce some people who rented this line quite some time ago.   Simply said just a tick I'll go and get her - and left phone alone.  It has squawked couple of times so assume our chum is still holding on stupid boy

Atleast we know its not just virgin!!!
wonder if it would be worth reporting it to our suppliers as we are none still the wiser to who it is and why they are being sooo annoying lol

Truecall sounds good but ofcourse for a price!!
I just might try doing what some of you here have done lol but whats the chances of it all stopping??

Actually, I do like the idea of Crabbie OAP to just leave the phone on one side.  Hey, if the silly beggars want to jabber on thinking that we are listening then who are we to stop them.  Once they realise that their phone calls are costing them to talk to thin air then maybe they will go away and leave us all in peace!  Definately not just a Virgin problem though Pez.  I am with BT.  Also, I know of people who have never had a debt problem yet get calls from this number, so just where are they getting our numbers from.  I suppose the best piece of advice to give anyone receiving a call from these chancers is to say DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION WHATSOEVER, AND DEFINATELY DO NOT GIVE THEM BANK OR FINANCIAL INFO.  Just hang up on them.

I have Virgin and the number 0301 has phoned me once. I also invested in TrueCall (please invest- its a fantastic machine and you forget its there!) and the number was blocked. If they try again they will "zapped" which means they will NEVER get through again. With truecall, only the phone calls you want will get through to you.
