saw that number 0322817000, just leave it to a missed call. thinking it would be telemarketing offer...

I received call from Mr yap from CIMB bank telemarketer...offering balance transfer from other bank and you can get intereste as low as 6.99% for 1 year?

Call claiming to be from CIMB but I wasn't sure what she was trying to tell me. Something about an "offer" and some percentages of number. The caller's spoken English was bad and heavy with Chinese accent, I couldn't understand what she was trying to say. Can anyone clarify if CIMB really have telemarketers for personal loans, or is this a scam?

Got a call from Mr Yap offering me to take maximum loan even i told him only interested of taking 4k. He insists i take max and can return anytime with interest charge basis what i took. Ended up the processing fees is RM3K which was not clearly highlighted. Only talking about interest rate after 2 months and i call cimb to complain pending their reply.

I received two calls from this number and the second time they called me, I nearly got a heart attack as my phone was on loud mode and I was taking a nap due to the flu.

I found this site and called them back. A lady with a heavy Chinese accent responded with "CIMB Bank, can I help you?" and verified myself by giving my IC number when she asked me to. She identified my name correctly therefore this is a bona fide (genuine) CIMB telemarketing arm, not a third party scamming operation.

Before I could continue she took the opportunity to tell me about their RM 22K loan offer via my CIMB credit card. I told her I'm not interested and asked her and her staff never to call me again. After that I added 03-2281 7000 to my caller block list to be sure.

DO NOT AGREE TO ACCEPTING WHATEVER PERSONAL LOAN OFFER OVER THE TELEPHONE BLINDLY!

Even if you are interested in getting the loan, take down every single detail of the loan transaction - interest rate, tenure, principal and any cancelation/early settlement charges. Your conversation with the telemarketer is recorded and can be used to refute allegations later on. No matter what sweet talk the telemarketer tells you, banks always profit more than you do.

Sit down with a calculator and work out how much interest you'll be paying to CIMB by the time the loan tenure is over. Don't be surprised if it's a large amount, because banks LOVE giving out unsecured loans because they earn more in interest. I know this because I worked for a local bank's product development a decade ago.

As a consumer, you can lodge an official complaint with Bank Negara if they harass or withhold vital information from you, eg hidden charges. Mention this to any bank representative or telemarketer and I guarantee you they will back down. Bank officers are required to report any public complaints against them to Bank Negara on a monthly basis and failure to do so can cost them their job.
