this is a scam

I received a call that i thought was a bit dodgy from this number.

It turned out to be the HSBC Fraud department.  HSBC now using "03" on calls

To avoid any potential scam I phoned the main call centre who connected me.  They were very helpful.  i don't like returning calls as the numbers can be cloned and they always ask security questions.  this way double safe.

Got a text saying to call this number after my card was rejected at the atm. Called the bank and it had been them.

It is not a scam it is definitely the HSBC Fraud Dept.

I got a text asking me to ring this number from "HSBC fraud prevention" I rang the different number on the back of my card and they confirmed that they had been trying to contact me.

The comment above comes from a shill for the fraud.  This is a phishing fraud.

The advice from both the Police and the Banks is to never, ever, give information to anyone claiming to be from "your bank".  You should end the call and unplug your 'phone (if a landline) or switch it off (if a mobile).  This is becaise scammers do not disconnect at their end if you hang up and, if you 'phone back immediately, you are still connected to them.  You shoukld then wait at least 10 minutes and then 'phone your bank on a number you know. The scammers have found a way of spoofing genuine bank telephone numbers, so seeing it on your caller ID does not make it real.

I am sure you have posted with the best of intentions but no-one should ever give details to anyone 'phoning and claiming to be "from your bank".  See my post right above yours for more informstion.

Definitely HSBC Fraud department. I called the number but wasn't comfortable giving my account details, so called the main HSBC number and they transferred me across to the fraud department. Turns out I lost my cc without realising it and someone tried to go on a shopping spree. Fortunately the transactions didn't go through. Lucky I called them back

I was wary at first but this was actually the HSBC Fraud Team trying to get in touch. I called the number on the back of my debit card just so I was sure I was speaking to someone from HSBC.

Genuine number from HSBC. They should NEVER ask for your password which they do not.

Text Message saying there was a fraud on my card with reference CR2

I can confirm it is HSBC credit card fraud department. You can call the number on the back of your credit card if you would prefer and they will put you through.
