Called me regarding a mortgage application saying they were from Halifax demanding personal data. They didn't verify they were from Halifax and the man who sounded like he was from outside the UK wouldn't give me his name.

I got a call today as well and I did not disclose my personal information. They right away demanded personal data and I asked them to send me an email to verify they are from Halifax, to which he replied he can't do that.

How would an email verify anything?

For starters, if he would have sent me an email from Halifax domain, it would have given me some reassurance

What happens if the domain was spoofed?  Very easily done, just as easy as spoofing phone numbers.  Why would you not look up a known published number for this outfit and call them directly.  That way you would be 100% sure of who you were talking to.

I submitted an online mortgage request and their team called me from this number.  They then set up a meeting for me at my local branch and emailed me all the details. Everything was legit for me

Based on other posts, this sounds a bit too good to be true. I would be careful about calls from this number.

Halifax Mortgage Relation Team. Didn’t answer at first as couldn’t find any details of the number. I asked Halifax on Twitter whether the number was legit and they confirmed it was.

I did not answer the call but I did recently (last night) do an online mortgage application on the Halifax website so I would be inclined to believe this was a genuine call.

Unknown number. I answered. No response. I hung up.
Interestingly I just have called Halifax for mortgage quote. However if from this company would 1) expect a response 2) would not expect a follow up call as I specifically opted out of marketing
