    believe this to be a SPAM call - claimed to know about two transactions on my credit card which they thought to be false. wanted me to press button 2 which I ignored

    You may be right but it's best not to ignore a fraud alert.  Call the number on your card and ask for the fraud department.  Scammers win by stealing your info and by getting you to ignore calls meant to alert you to the theft.  Most CC and banks now send fraud messages directing you to call the number on your card, the published number for the agency or to use the online portal.
