Text message claiming to be NHS for appointment reminder 24 hours in advance. To cancel the service they ask to text remove to 078 000 00199.

Dear Patient, <Surgery Name> need to update your smoking status, pls txt, NEVER, SMOKER, or EXSMOKER to 07800000199. Smoking advice is available at surgery.

The NHS number knew the surgery that I am registered with so this may be legit.

Received a similar message from the same number:

you still registered at <Surgery Name> and at the same address? If so text YES and the first line of your address to 07800000199 or you risk beiremoved from our list by the PCT.

Again, they knew which surgery I'm registered with, but the typo and the fact that it starts "you" rather than "Are you" makes me think that it isn't legit.

If this is from Balham Park Surgery then it's not a scam. We are updating our patient list making sure people are still at the addresses we have. We also have 24 hour appointment reminders which you will also receive.

Received this today and have checked all my appointments and no one is aware of me actually having made an appointment I haven't got one with my GP as stated on the text ! It a scam

This is NHS number for Drs Surgery.
I get text reminders for my appointments starting with my name, or if needs to call surgery giving their contact number.

I received a message from the NHS telling me that I had an appointment and asked me to call that number, but the surgery was in London so I looked it up and gave their number from their website a call. They were as confused as me from the message, and said that they were going to see if someone's phone number had been changed with mine.

This is a legitimate service from Doctors, usually a reminder for your appointments

I was charged £1.76 for 6 texts within one minute (on my phone it looks like one text message '1') this was 3 weeks ago and I cannot remember what it was about, but I was not expecting to be charged for anything.

Any text that asks for personal details would be suspect and probably a scam. 4 digit or short numbers are also usually unsafe.
If the text specifically mentions your surgery/hospital and is related to recent treatment or appoinment, it's likely to be legitimate. If in doubt, check for info with the surgery/hospital (or their website) or contact them directly.
0780 is classed as a standard mobile number, so the cost of sending a text to it will depend on your mobile tariff. If you have unlimited (or inclusive) texts, then in theory it shouldn't cost anything.

Got a text saying that  that medical practice would like to update my medical record.  But i'm not registered in that practice so i'll just ignore it.

I called it and nothing happened. It did not connect to anyone or anything. They knew my full name and the road where my Doctors is.

Got a txt to update my smoking status as some of the others have had. 07800000199. They also gave  me a local number to call to update but it’s the number for my local vets!! I have not text or called either number.

Keep getting weekly text reminding me about an appointment at Hazeldene Medical Center and to text 07800000199. Never heard of this doctors.  This has only started since I changed to ordering my prescription on line.
