- Caller: ?
- Ruth Williams| 1 replyBeen to the bank and told them about these callers. The first thing the caller asks you is to give them your card number, expiry date, etc..The bank said that THIS IS A SCAM.......KEEP OFF/ KEEP AWAY
..and to make themselves appear legitimate, they tell you that if you dont believe them, call the number on the back of the card. Of course, that is the number I'm supposed to call, not them. - Nan replies to Ruth WilliamsThey ask you to call the number on your card because they do not hang up the 'phone at the end of their call and, when you think you are dailling the real number, you are still connected to the scammers. The latest info from the Banks and the Police is 1. Never give any information to the caller. 2. If you have access to another 'phone call your bank on that. 3. If you cannot use another 'phone unplug your 'phone for about 5 or 10 minutes then plug it back in and call your bank. A new version of this scam has started to appear in the UK after running for a couple of years in the USA and Canada. The scammers have found a way of "spoofing" real bank 'phone numbers so you can never be sure that the people calling are the bank.
- Steve BrownI picked up a call on my bosses extension at work as they were in a meeting
We have caller id but the number did not show up on my display
A guy with a foreign accent claimed to be called (Pritti??) was wanting to check some recent transactions on my bosses Barclaycard
They asked for the to call them back- Call type: Prank
- Jonathan CloughI received a letter from Barclaycard Fraud department asking me to call them on this number. The letter looked pretty dodgy, so I looked up the Barclaycard Fraud dept phone number on line (0345 734 5345) and called them using that instead. It turned out that the letter was really from Barclaycard and the 0800 number was legitimate, so I'd have been OK calling it.
- Chris RogersMessage left described the person as from Barclaycard Fraud Dept. I do not have such a card therefore why would they call me? No, there is NO reason. This is a scamming call. Do not respond in ANY way, even to shout abuse at them!
- Clare JonesA lady by the name of Beverley Coleman Hill from Barclays called my parents number and wanted to get hold of me urgently??? asked me to ring this number back - first thing they asked me was my card number (16 digits) then asked for the start date of the card and then asked me to verify my account with an email address! When I didn't give any of the details they wanted, apparently someone was going to call me back because this was urgent, still waiting.......
Didn't give them any details and checked the Barclays website - first message that appears on the website is one from Barclays saying their customers are being targeted for email addresses causing viruses.- Caller: Barclays Fraud Dept hoax
