- ReonyI got called by this number today too. Any chance you've either applied for the Open University or been applying for jobs in Southampton? They're the only people I can think of that might've tried to call me...
- nemoOffice for National Statistics doing a survey
http://www.statistics.gov.uk/ - N1vagYes it is, they keep calling me despite me telling them I do not want to take part in the survey! They are starting to annoy me!
- Bhavnathey keep calling me at odd times....i am on holiday and do not want to answer it because it would cost me a fortune! they don´t leave a message on voivemail either.
- WORRIED DAUGHTERWhoever this company is.... let me tell you they are using what I consider to be virtual scaremongering tactics towards my father in law.
I advise anyone to tell them to stop calling, but not as politely as I have just said.
I would like to know if anybody else has received unwanted calls from this number! - vinnieNo need to worry about these calls, they are from the Office for National Statistics, asking for you to start or continue with national surveys. All the telephone interviewers are well trained & polite to people they call, and always leave a answer phone message at the first call made.
- EdYeah this is the ONS. They're alright to chat to, but tend to take up a bit of time. It's not a company or anyone trying to sell things. They just tend to be quite insistent once you have agreed to take part in a survey. I think they do it by postcode lottery or something.

- TobeonI just got a call from them it is the Office for National Statistics (as everyone else has said). The woman on the phone was very polite and when I said I was in work and wasn't able to talk she asked if it would be ok to call back later and if there was a prefered time etc.
So a call from this number isn't anything to worry about.- Caller: Office for National Statistics
- Call type: Survey
- justgotacallI have always been x directory for land line and I'm on pay as you go mobile so how do they get your number? It must be pot luck for them. I've put this number as a don't answer on my phone.

- CharlieIt's the Office of National Statistics. It started with a letter asking if I wanted to be involved in a national survey, and I agreed and a representative came and interviewed us. He asked if it would be OK to have a short follow-up phone interview and I said yes, and this was that number. I don't think it's dodgy. National statistics are used to gather information on the population and behaviour on which to make governmental policy such as NHS spending, policing, schools etc. Without them it would be just guesswork. You could even look at it this way: since the samples are a small percentage of the population, having your circumstances on the record (anonymously) is actually good for you as it will over-represent your case ...
I'm a regular contributor to this site and this is the first time I've actually been positive!- Caller: ONS
- annoyedexdirGot 10 phone calls today

- frustratedI find it very frustrating that we all feel the need to check up before we dare call the number. It is because the bad people that scam and take money from innocent people. I cant imagine how we managed before the internet although these such scams werent arround as much before the invension of the computer. This lady sounds very professional and makes it sound like you MUST complete this survey as it is VERY important. I was concerned to think that I hadnt done it and that I would be in trouble. Thanks to Who Calls Me? I can now be confident when they call again and say NO THANKS without thinking I am doing something wrong.
Thank you for putting my mind at rest. ;)- Caller: 08002985313
- mrs m| 4 repliesI didn't fill in the survey, nobody turned up at the house, then this morning they phoned so have no idea how they got my number.
Can anybody give me some idea of what they want to know and why? Thanks! - sam hendersonyep same phone call here!
- AnonThe only reason they keep calling is if you ignore the call as they have to check the address is the right one and they have to try to get as many address's (that have been selected ) to take part as possible as this makes the statistics more accurate. If you really do not want to take part just tell them and they will take you off ... And not call you again if you keep ignoring they will call to check they have the right number.

- Caff replies to mrs m| 3 repliesYou don't have to have filled in a survey. As they are a Government Office they can get your details from the census.
- Old Mother Riley replies to CaffCensus that I completed had no space to write phone number.
- AnonThey can NOT get details from the census that is completely different survey ..... They choose the houses as part of a random sample of addresses from the postal address file (not the lottery !!!!)
